About

Usain Bolt, Ostrava, May 2011

This is BobRamsak.com, a public notebook by Bob Ramsak.

I’m a long-time journalist, photographer and researcher driven by passions for environmental, social and refugee justice. I’ve visited 62 countries and write something and make pictures (almost) every day. This site is a notebook and photolog where I track and (sometimes) comment on those interests, journal my travels and log my current obsessions. A recent one is a renewed passion for bird photography. It’s my go-to salve.

This site’s primary audience is me, a garden for my memories, but which I’m happy to share. If someone finds something helpful here, or has a thought or insight to add, that’s all the better. Drop me a line or leave a comment to let me know. I’ll be delighted to make your acquaintance.

A longer version

In my work life, I’m Head of Sustainability at World Athletics, the global governing body for track & field and distance running, where I work to ensure that our sport and stakeholders are positively contributing to the global fight against climate change.

More that three decades of personal and professional passions and ambitions have landed me here: a career as a journalist and photographer covering culture, politics, international development and Olympic sport; fierce advocacy for environmental, local economic, social and refugee justice; an affection for travel that has taken me to more than 60 countries; and a life-long passion for track and field, the only sport I’ve ever followed and loved.

The opinions expressed on this website are entirely my own.

Blogging and curating

I’ve been blogging since 2006 on four sites that are now either defunct or have been hacked. After allowing this site to sit fallow for more than a half decade, I decided to give it a (re-)kick start midway through 2025 to rekindle some old connections and form new ones. Stories and images from those sites will be added here when time allows to create a broader archive of photos, ideas and stories. For now (November December 2025), posts and photos are mostly being added thematically. That’s why you’re seeing lots of bird flying about. That’s good. But watch your head, and thanks for looking.
