Spain: II Islamic Congress finishes in Melilla
Alí Mesnaoui, (…) explained, in his conference “Science’ basis in Islam”, that this religion “socialised science”. In fact, he informed that science, who had always been a priviledge for aristocrats and priests, transformed into something common for all people [thanks to Islam] (?). Islam reached everyone after the contact with civilizations such as Greek, Indian or Chinese ones.
Surely science reached everyone with Islam: that’s why Islamic societies are so advanced… 😦
The results of appeasement
Hmm, just tell this to Obama. Giving money to Hamas is not the solution cannot be considered a way to show respect for Muslims.
Priest uncovering beginnings of Final Solution
a Catholic priest named Patrick Desbois (..) says he has interviewed more than 800 eyewitnesses and pinpointed hundreds of mass graves strewn around dusty fields in the former Soviet Union. The result is a book, “The Holocaust by Bullets,” and an exhibition through March 15 at New Yorks Museum of Jewish Heritage.
Brought to Ukraine by a twist of fate, Desbois has spent seven years trying to document the truth, honor the dead, relieve witnesses of their pain and guilt and prevent future acts of genocide.
Some 1.4 million of Soviet Ukraines 2.4 million Jews were executed, starved to death or died of disease during the war. Another 550,000-650,000 Soviet Jews were killed in Belarus and up to 140,000 in Russia, according to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Most of the victims were women, children and the elderly.
It’s about time to speak about USSR’s crimes, mainly those committed by the Gulag’s administration and, yes, those against Jewish people living there.
Malaysia: ‘Religious department to act against any blogger who insults Islam’
Its director-general Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the department could act against irresponsible bloggers, regardless of their religious background.
“Right now, the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission are still trying to trace the blogger said to have insulted Prophet Muhammad.
“We will come in once the culprit is found,” he said.
Wan Mohamad also said there were bound to be “extremists” among religious followers or leaders in view of the country’s multi-ethnicity.
How sweet!!

Pro-Chávez thugs attack students
Some 25 students were expelled from Bolívar Square, downtown Caracas, by members of ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) who threw bottles and stones at them.
The students went to the main Caracas square to lay a wreath at the statue of Liberator Simón Bolívar, on the occasion of the anniversary of his death.

Mumbai attackers more tech savvy than the police
When the attackers arrived on the shores of Mumbai last month, they had studied satellite images of the city, were carrying handheld GPS sets and were communicating with their handlers via the Internet and satellite phone.
Many of the Indian police they encountered did not even have walkie-talkies.
The Mumbai gunmen not only overwhelmed security forces with their weaponry and willingness to die, but also with their sophisticated use of technology, security experts said.
“These (terrorists) are well aware of the technology available and also know that the police are several steps behind. And a lot of this technology is extremely easy to use and to learn,” said Pavan Duggal, a technology expert and New Delhi-based lawyer
via Mumbai attackers more tech savvy than the police – Yahoo! News.
This is a total disgrace, isn’t it? The police should be much more prepared that the terrorists… So, who is financing these bastards to have such an equipment?
By the way, Pakistan has accused Indian planes of entering its airspace.
Indian warplanes crossed into Pakistani airspace on Saturday over two parts of the country where the militant group accused of carrying out the Mumbai terror attacks is active, according to Pakistani officials, who said they scrambled their own air force jets to chase the Indian aircraft back across the border.
The incursions would appear to be an aggressive display by India, whose top officials describe neighboring Pakistan as the “epicenter of terrorism” and say Pakistan’s own intelligence service has long aidedLashkar-e-Taiba, the group blamed for the attacks in Mumbai last month, which sharply raised tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals.
This is noooo good.

Momin Khawaja, infiltrating Canadian security agencies?
Muslim terror promoters penetrating Canadian security agencies? « Creeping Sharia
f terrorism suspect Momin Khawaja, now on trial in Ottawa, is as guilty as Crown prosecutors say, it’ll be time to settle an important question: Was Mr. Khawaja a “Naji man”?
Amid trial allegations, court details and defence objections, significant questions arise about Mr. Khawaja’s status as a consultant to the Department of Foreign Affairs at about the time of his arrest. Prosecutors claim the software contractor used his perch inside the department to send streams of E-mails to confederates abroad – that federal resources were, in other words, used to advance terror plots. Authorities also say Mr. Khawaja might have used privileged Foreign Affairs department travel documents to travel on his “missions.” And that he allegedly suggested using special departmental courier services to send bomb-related equipment to foreign associates, in the apparent belief that a government imprimatur on shipments confers immunity from customs searches.
Insiders can do a lot of damage in sensitive government and private-sector establishments. From intelligence organizations to banks, history is replete with examples of infiltrators and penetrators undermining computer systems, removing money, spilling secrets. Remember Barings Bank? Kim Philby?
So questions must be asked. If, for the sake of argument, Mr. Khawaja was working against Canadians and their allies, what access did he have to departmental personnel, to electronic records, communications and associated encryption systems? Who recommended and hired him in the first place? A friend? If the government’s version is correct, why would a software consultant be so confident about his access to special courier services? Did he have a network of friends at the department? It is early days, and no decisive answers are on offer.
Must pay attention to this trial: it’s going to be pretty interesting..

Greek riots
Protesters clash with police during Athens rally – Yahoo! News
Riot police clashed with demonstrators outside Parliament Wednesday as a general strike paralyzed Greece, shutting down schools, hospitals and international flights and raising pressure on a fragile government reeling from four days of riots.
The lawyer for the two officers accused in the fatal shooting of a teenager that set off the unrest said ballistics show 15-year-old Alexandros Griogropoulos was killed by a ricochet and not a direct shot. Lawyer Alexis Cougias said the report corroborated the officers’ account that they fired warning shots and did not shoot directly at the boy.
One officer has been charged with murder and the other as an accomplice. They were to appear in court later in the day. Authorities have not made the ballistics report public.
And riots continue with no sign of abating.
Critics say that the government has lost control over the tactical
management of the crisis, with radical anarchists burning shops, cars,
banks and even government buildings, including the Hellenic Parliament Foundation
and the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic academy. Some 320 stores, 50
banks and a number of civilian buildings have been damaged or destroyed
in Athens, with another 100 stores in the northern city of Thessaloniki targeted. There have also been outbreaks of violence in several small cities and on the island of Corfu. In Athens’ Syntagma square, just across from Parliament,
protesters set ablaze the large Christmas tree. Today, more clashes
took place in the square and the surrounding streets as police used
tear gas to break up a large group of protestors throwing rocks at the Parliament building.
Later in the afternoon clashes resumed in downtown Athens with youth
groups barricaded in the Athens Polytechnic School, near the Exarchia
district, setting up roadblocks outside the School, burning cars and
bus stops.
Read also Politeia and Modern Conservative. From the first one:
Quite a few Greek radical groups have adopted Arabic noms de guerres;
they promote illegal immigration of Muslims into Europe, and call for
the destruction of Western civilization. They are part of an almost
global network that acts as a “soft power” element of the hard one, as
envisaged by Al Qaeda. It has to be stressed once more that rogue
elements of western security forces protect them. They have to be dealt
with as soon as possible.
Another proof of the alliance between radical left and Islamism.

Muxlim
First Muslim-friendly virtual world goes online (AFP) by AFP: Yahoo! Tech
A trial version of the world’s first Muslim-friendly virtual world was launched Tuesday, where users can create an online persona, design their own rooms, buy virtual items and interact with others.
Called Muxlim Pal and created by the Finnish-based company Muxlim.com, the English-language site caters primarily to Muslims living in western countries who long to reconnect with other Muslims and Muslim culture.
“Muxlim Pal is just another channel for our users to socialise, have fun and express themselves using social media in a safe and friendly atmosphere,” Muxlim chief executive Mohamed El-Fatatry, 23, told AFP.
On Muxlim Pal, which is free of charge to join, users can shop for clothes for their avatar at the mall, hang out at the beach cafe, pray at the mosque or go to concerts.
What makes Muxlim Pal different from other popular websites such as Second Life is that content portraying violence, drugs, sexual references or profanity is not allowed.
Not even Jihad content?

A very slow suicide
Words associated with Christianity, the monarchy and British history have been dropped from a leading dictionary for children.
Oxford University Press has removed words like “aisle”, “bishop”, “chapel”, “empire” and “monarch” from its Junior Dictionary and replaced them with words like “blog”, “broadband” and “celebrity”. Dozens of words related to the countryside have also been culled.
The publisher claims the changes have been made to reflect the fact that Britain is a modern, multicultural, multifaith society.
But academics and head teachers said that the changes to the 10,000 word Junior Dictionary could mean that children lose touch with Britain’s heritage.

Pakistan Arrests Suspect in Mumbai Attacks – NYTimes.com
Pakistani authorities have arrested the operational leader of the Pakistani-based militant group suspected of conducting the Mumbai attacks, a senior security official said Monday.
The arrest Sunday of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the supreme commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, came as Pakistan raided a camp run by the group in Pakistani-held Kashmir, the first concrete steps by Pakistan in response to the assault on Mumbai.
Mr. Lakhvi has been accused by India of being in control of the attackers in Mumbai as they terrorized the city during a three-day siege in which 163 people were killed.
The leader commanded the attack and then kept in communication with the gunmen by mobile and satellite phone as they rounded up guests in two hotels, killing some of them, according to Indian and Western investigators. How far the arrest of Mr. Lakhvi, and the raid, will go to satisfy the Indians remained an open question. It appears to be the first time that Pakistan has captured a senior operational figure in Lashkar-e-Taiba, a group that was founded in conjunction with the intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence in the late 1980s to fight a proxy war against India in Kashmir.

My guess is that they have arrested him, because they know India was preparing itself to attack Pakistan. But I am not confident that in the long run they are going to act at all… ![]()

Indian Police Say Man Arrested in Mumbai Probe Is Undercover Cop
One of the two men arrested for illegally buying mobile phone cards used by gunmen in the Mumbai attacks is a counter-insurgency police officer who may have been on an undercover mission, security officials said Saturday.
The officials in Indian Kashmir demanded that police in Calcutta, where the suspect is being held, arrange for his quick release.
Only two people have been arrested since the end of the bloody siege that killed 171 people. Indian officials have blamed the attacks on Pakistani extremists.
What a coincidence, isn’t it?

‘Honour killing’ sentence against Pakistani upheld
An Italian court of appeal upheld on Friday a 30-year prison sentence for a Pakistani father who murdered his daughter in a so-called honour killing in 2006.
The young woman’s two brothers-in-law, who were also jailed for 30 years for their part in her death, saw their sentence reduced to 17 years, Sky TG24 news channel reported. The stabbed body of Hina Saleem, 21, was found buried in the garden of the family home in Sarezzo, near the northern city of Brescia, on August 11, 2006.
Ms Saleem, who reportedly refused an arranged marriage with a cousin, had been estranged from her family and lived with her Italian boyfriend Giuseppe Tempini.
via ‘Honour killing’ sentence against Pakistani upheld -DAWN – Top Stories; December 06, 2008.
Meanwhile this is at least surprising:
Eight United Nations agencies have co-sponsored the first Palestinian festival to combat violence against women, driving home the message that so-called honour killings have nothing to do with honour and seeking to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding domestic abuse.
It is time for action, not words, UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Program Manager in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Alia’ Al-Yassir said in the inaugural speech of the festival held, Thursday, in Ramallah. UN agencies are working as one on this issue and supporting civil societies in their efforts to end violence against women
Well, I don’t think that a “festival” is going to change anything, least if organised by UN. But it’s something refreshing to see some people in those places really worried about this.
Then there is also this other statement:
“Islam does not permit illicit relationship, but killing a girl for this reason is a cold-blooded murder and is a serious offence under the Islamic law,” chairman of Shariyat Court Maulana Irfan Mufti Zulfikar said.
There are so many people going against Islam, then… Of course, this man is from India and was ruling in a case where a girl was killed out of honor.
Mumbay attacks: some cuestions related with cooperation and nuclear proliferation
The U.S. has promised India “very active” help to improve its counter-terrorism capabilities while asking Pakistan to act “urgently and transparently” to help catch the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror assaults and prevent future attacks.
The “terrible sophisticated” terror attack “raises questions about the importance of making certain that everything is done to bring the perpetrators to justice, but also to prevent follow-on attacks,” Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Friday.
“And in that regard, Pakistan has a special responsibility to act,” she said in Copenhagen, after a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, whom she briefed about her talks with Indian and Pakistani leaders
via The Hindu News Update Service.
Even if Indian state has done very little to stop the persecution against Christians which took place last summer, I really consider that it’s necessary they are helped in these matters. That’s why I just don’t understand why Pakistan has agreed with Afghanistan and Turkey to cooperate in anti-terrorist matters, while they are not doing the same with India (apart from the three countries being Islamic and India being a non-Islamic country).
Apart from that, there is the inherent perils of having both India and Pakistan nuclear arsenals:
The Mumbai terrorist attacks and their potential to re-poison the relationship between India and Pakistan suggests that we should not be too sanguine about the stability of nuclear deterrence in a proliferated world. Even if nuclear weapons tend to encourage mutually-deterring relationships between possessor states (an assumption that, while plausible, is no more than an extrapolation from a single U.S.-Soviet case study and a mere decade of sometimes tension-filled Indo-Pakistani nuclear confrontation), there is no guarantee that any actual possessors’ relationship will be stable.
This is true particularly where bitter regional rivalries are susceptible to inflammation from other factors (e.g., cross-border terrorism and/or squabbles over contested frontiers). One would have to have a great deal of faith indeed in the conflict-moderating impact of nuclear weapons in order to be comfortable that the net result will be more stable and less dangerous than before. It is certainly possible that in such contexts the introduction of nuclear weapons would not increase stability. It would merely worsen the potential downside risks if troubled relationships deteriorate.

Italy Raises Terror Alert
Due to heightened chatter and the upcoming Christmas season Italian authorities have issued an allarme terrorismo–terror warning–requesting that citizens be extra vigilant in the weeks ahead.
Roberto Maroni, Italys Minister of Internal Affairs, stated today that their attention is “extremely high” and that Italian law enforcement offficials have stepped up controls to places typically associated with large crowds such as “supermarkets, malls, churches and other places of worship in order to prevent terrorist actions.”
via Life without Berlusconi: Italy Raises Terror Alert.
Something wise considering that two Moroccans were arrested three days ago, with plans to bomb Milan’s Duomo, military and civil buildings, like the Army offices at Peruccheti and of the Carabinieri of Guisano, a parking and the bar Mistral sited at Seregno. They stated: “There is no need to go to Afghanistan to belong to Al-Qaeda“. They were using oxygen cylinders to make bombs following instructions found in the Web. They also used internet to see jihad’s videos.
Mumbai: More explosives found
Leftover explosives found in Mumbai train station – Yahoo! News
Police on Wednesday discovered leftover explosives hidden in a bag in Mumbai’s main train station — a stunning new example of botched security after the deadly rampage that left the government open to accusations it missed warnings and bungled its response.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Islamabad has a “special responsibility” to cooperate with the investigation into the attacks, which Indian and U.S. officials have blamed on militant groups based in Pakistan.
During a joint press conference with Rice, Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee said, “there is no doubt the terrorist attacks in Mumbai were perpetrated by individuals who came from Pakistan and whose controllers are in Pakistan.”
Are they from the same terrorists that attacked Mumbai last week? Or are they new attacks?
More information about the attackers:
The training was “meticulous and rigorous,” said a security official who spoke on the customary condition of anonymity.
The official said the gunmen sailed from Karachi in a Lashkar vessel that brought them to the waters near an Indian vessel they hijacked, the MV Kuber.
They killed three crew members and dumped their bodies in high seas, but kept the captain alive so that he could guide them into Mumbai.
The captain was killed some three nautical miles off Mumbai’s coast, the official said.
