Starting in November 2025, I joined the Department of Robotics as an Associate Professor at MBZUAI (Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I’m actively recruiting graduate students and post-doctoral researchers to advance our research. Feel free to contact.
The Bionic Design + Learning Lab (BionicDL) is part of the Design + Learning Research Group, led by Prof. Song Chaoyang, which focuses on interdisciplinary research in Bionic Systems, Robot Learning, and Design Science.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Tongji University, Shanghai, China, in 2009, and my Ph.D. at the Robotics Research Center, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2014. My doctoral research focuses on the theoretical kinematics of a class of overconstrained linkages, dealing with the fundamental mechanism theory in robotics and mechanical engineering. During my post-doc study, I joined the newly founded Singapore University of Technology and Design. My postdoctoral research focuses on the application end of research and development, investigating the technological and design innovation factors that successfully translate lab results into commercial products. I continued my post-doc research topic at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2015, I was appointed as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Monash University, where the Sustainable + Intelligent Robotics Group was initially formed. In 2018, I joined the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) as an Assistant Professor of Robotics and an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science, and updated my lab to Bionic Design + Learning Lab. Later, we joined with the Machine Intelligence Design and Learning lab to form the Design and Learning Research Group.
In September 2025, I founded AncoraSpring Robotics, a spin-off from my lab, together with my students. The company aims to translate our fundamental and applied research into advanced robotic and AI systems. We are actively recruiting and also seeking funding support for our development. Feel free to contact.
