At the 2025 ALA Annual Conference, Sage, the Banned Books Week Coalition, and Unite Against Book Bans partnered to sponsor the Banned Books from the Big Chair booth. Pioneering actor, author, and activist George Takei has been named honorary chair of Banned Books Week, which will take place October 5 – 11, 2025. Takei will be joined in leading the annual event by youth honorary chair Iris Mogul.
The Banned Books Week Coalition is thrilled to join Unite Against Book Bans in welcoming Public School Strong as the newest member of Unite’s growing coalition! Together, we’re strengthening the fight against book bans by inviting libraries, schools, bookstores, and community groups to showcase their Banned Books Week 2025 events on Public School Strong’s online advocacy calendar.
Banned Books Week Coalition partners Little Free Library (LFL), the American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Intellectual Freedom and PEN America have collaborated on an updated interactive map that highlights where censorship is rising and how communities can respond by sharing books in Little Free Libraries.
