For us, it was LGBT activism, particularly around trans/genderqueer issues.

Thanks James. You are right about that. We started feeling better about the situation after we wrote and posted this entry.
What sort of community activism were you all involved in? Like for what issues?
We were talking about autistic self-advocacy

Fri, 22 Feb 2013 09:47:03 +0000https://athenivanidx.wordpress.com/?p=716#comment-792There’s no reason to feel guilty about stepping back for a while. Sometimes we feel bad, too, since we had stepped back from community activism after we moved states last year and transferred to a new college. Sometimes you’ve just got to step back, and there’s no shame in that. Taking care of yourselves is important.

Comment on Suggested Self-Advocacy Strategies by Diversity is Art

Thu, 21 Feb 2013 09:45:30 +0000https://athenivanidx.wordpress.com/?p=535#comment-791This is something I want to do one day. I wonder how to be an advocate in a country like mine, less people know what autism is, there is no ASAN, no autistic groups I know of. I think the lack of support, the problems I would face and my general anxiety and problems are not a good combination today, maybe another time.
I also have little contact with autistic people online and I don’t know anyone interested in autism.
It would be difficult to know exactly what to do.

Yes you are right about that. Our system has worked thus far. It takes a while…to maintain. When an idea turns into a small paragraph on the idea list, it is cut and pasted into a separate draft.
Thanks for commenting

Comment on Being responsible versus being given a responsibility (or several) by C7

Mon, 18 Feb 2013 19:19:15 +0000https://athenivanidx.wordpress.com/?p=29#comment-782One thing: let’s clearly define “responsibility” since you ask whether the hypothetical autistic knows what it is. Based on your examples, I’m thinking something along the lines of “will personally ensure that XYZ is accomplished”.
There was a Dennis/Menace cartoon on the point of being assigned responsibilities: Dennis complaining that he was considered old enough to eat everything put on his plate, yet not old enough to determine what got put on the plate.

Sat, 16 Feb 2013 07:44:32 +0000https://athenivanidx.wordpress.com/?p=753#comment-774When you do a lot of writing, you’ll end up with lots of ideas and articles at various stages, including your idea lists, articles you’ve just started writing, halfway-finished articles, completed drafts that you need to review, final versions you’re waiting to publish, and articles that have already been published. It’s hard to keep track of all these pieces without a good organizational scheme.
