Make Art. Create Community. Each Studio Be series offers an opportunity to make connections and explore creative arts in a small, supportive environment. Studio Be sessions are facilitated by professional teaching artists. Due to the small group format, an interest form is required and can be completed by the participant, a parent/guardian, or teacher. Participation is free.
Embroidery for Empowerment (with Shaerie Mead): Thursdays 4:30-6pm (February 5, 12, 19 & 26) at 306 Revere Rd. Hillsborough, NC
Fiber art is currently seeing a resurgence, reclaimed as a powerful medium for rebellion and protest. Previously seen as a ‘soft’ craft, it’s now being acquired by museums and honored across the art world. There is a deep history of the vulnerable using this medium for communication and connection. If you have something to say, this class is for you! And if you also just want to make some pretty art, you are more than welcome.
Learn the basic stitches, how to transfer designs, how to incorporate your own art, how to mix with other media. All materials provided!
Stamp & Screen (with Shaerie Mead): Thursdays 4:30-6pm (March 5, 12, 19 & 26) at 306 Revere Rd Hillsborough, NC
Learn how to print on fabric or paper with two methods in this class! Use existing stamps, carve a block for printing, and create screen prints with easy-to-access supplies. Shaerie will show you how to use all the tools and supplies for printing, how to transfer your own artwork to these processes, and how to care for your finished work. Students can bring their own clothing to print on or use supplied fabric to make patches or prints.
Walls that Talk (with Sampada Kodagali Agarwal): Two sessions are being offered-please register for either Wednesday or Thursday
Wednesdays April 1-April 29 from 4:30-6:00 pm at the Eno Arts Mill 437 Dimmocks Mill Rd. (NO Group on April 22)
Thursdays April 2-April 30 from 4:30-6:00pm at the Eno Arts Mill 437 Dimmocks Mill Rd (NO Group on April 23)
Teens will learn creative storytelling through a Tribal Art Mural. Starting with a brief history of a tribal art style called Warli that is closely linked to nature, and then an introduction of basic Warli motifs, including human figures. A discussion on the connection of Warli art and storytelling will culminate in the design and creation of a collaborative class mural (to be displayed at the Eno Arts Mill!).
