About Me

Updated 2024-11-15:

Hello and welcome,

My name is Andrew though I go by Andy at times because it makes for more catchy usernames.

Although I only began sharing poetry in 2015 and sharing my longform writing even later I have always been fascinated by storytelling. I recall the first story I ever wrote: Mad Maniac, a story of a man who loses his brain, scribbled across 3 or maybe 4 sides of A4 paper. The first poem I remember writing is Kool Kiwi when I was 10 which is also lost to time but I recall the opening line went similar to: “Hey have you heard of the kool kiwi? He gives you vitamins like a and e”

As far as writing goals the biggest ones I have achieved are:

  • Write a poem a day for over 100 days
  • Complete a first draft of a novel in 2021 (at a total of 90,000 words for Nanowrimo)
  • Completed a draft and redraft of a novella in 2024 (40,000 words), which I have not yet shared.

My future goals with writing are to publish an anthology, though mostly comprised of poems from my blog, and to share a fully completed and edited story to the blog.

The greatest honour I have received was a request to use one of my poems for analysis in an English class. This came on a forum I shared to whilst I was sharing my poems in many places, I now try to keep all my poetry to just this blog. I do not know if they followed through with it but it was a very validating moment for me as it was only a year or two into my poetry writing. Similarly there is a comment under this very post about someone wanting to use a poem for their school project. Thinking that my poems are out there making a name for themselves is exciting though of course I’d love to know all the details so I can feel like a mini celebrity.

I hope you will stay a while and enjoy the poems I have shared.

Andrew

    • Hey,
Firstly, thanks for reading my poems, I’m glad you enjoyed them
Feel free to use my username (AndyWritesPoems) or Andrew W, I’ve not published these under my full name so it would be odd to credit a name that isn’t associated with them, I hope that’s okay

  1. Hi, I went through few of your poems… just wanted to say they were so relatable, well at least for me- and in my opinion, for a poem to be relatable or to make a reader- feel-is a great feat- So, Thank You for sharing your poems…loved them

    • You’ve got a lot of really nice photos and I’m curious to hear your thoughts, I looked back over December but if I go much further I feel your thoughts may have changed since then 🙂
The Poet Stands Alone was very relate-able and deep, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it
