The Best “Not a Journal” Out There

Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet Issue 28 came out a few weeks ago with my short story “Vanish Girl” in it. The piece is about a fifteen-year-old living in an invisible building. I was more than a little scared to re-read the story after a year of not having looked at it. I can honestly say I wasn’t entirely mortified by what I had written, and I am so grateful to editor Gavin Grant for choosing to publish it.
My favorite story in Issue 28 was “Akashiyaki (Octopus dumpling serves two)” by Erica Hildebrand. Like A. D. Jameson’s unforgettable “The Wolves of St. Etienne” in Issue 27, Hildebrand’s story will always be with me. Her tale of the brief friendship between a man and an out-of-water octopus clutching a stuffed animal bumblebee is hard to shake. Like so much in Lady Churchill’s, Hildebrand’s poignant story defies categorization.
As a body of work, Lady Churchill’s is hard to define, but awesomeness lays between its front and back covers.
