    Amazing AirTag
Apple AirTags are amazing. I purchased them immediately when they first came out and I continue to purchase as I find more and more uses for them. I also give them to family and friends when they see how I use them and how useful they are. Park a stroller at Disneyland in the sea of strollers? No problem finding when you’ve attached an AirTag. Used on luggage numerous time when traveling Used on kids. Used on cars. Used on Uhaul trailers. I keep one in my wallet and one separately in my purse in case someone snags my wallet. I keep one in my passport holder as well for same reason. Best story ever about one. I live 4 1/2 hours away from grandkids in same state. Mailed a package via USPS with birthday presents in it. Wanted to track it va USPS tracking so I threw an AirTag in. And watched my package go to 11 different states over a 21 day adventure and backtracking at time to states! Attached is pic of the AirTag track. Meanwhile the USPS tracking showed it leaving Jacksonville FL as it should and then updated every few days with no new location but “in transit” I had called USPS several times but got the same answer. Finally when it started going west again away from us I finally got someone on the phone and told them I suspected the package got tossed into a bin the that was riding around on truck and had no updates because it was never unloaded/looked at any destination along the way. They were skeptical until I told them I had an AirTag in it and could see the tracking and if they looked at that Truck I could tell them every place it had been and started naming cities. They said they would look into it and right after that I watched the truck Turn around and head to the airport they had passed an hour before and suddenly my package was scanned in at that airport and a day later delivered to my granddaughter

My significant other and I took a 6-week trip last year to Europe, and had just heard of AirTags. I found this 4-pack for one hundred and decided to take a chance on them. That seemed a little expensive to me, but everything Apple is expensive. These are gamechangers! I bought the silicone AirTag holders to slip them in and protect them, as well as make it easier to grab them. I know traveler hackers recommend carrying everything in a carry-on now, and *never* checking luggage; but we didn't have that option for our 6-week trip across the continent. We put one at the bottom of both of our suitcases, and one in our backpacks. These work great! We also felt peace of mind being able to track where our suitcases where in the airport. Airlines are particularly great at misplacing luggage, and when you are in a foreign country, you don't want to be panicked about discovering that your bag is "perdido" or "perdu" or "persa", and the agent is going on break. In case you don't know, that is "lost". lol

The way they work is that they broadcast a ping to other Apple devices around it. At least one of those Apple devices can then broadcast it to the Find My location service. So if there are no Apple devices around, the location will not update. Alternatively, if there are Apple devices around but no connection to the internet, the location will not update. We were in both of those circumstances in remote places on our travels. Once we got within internet range, they started updating again. Pretty ingenious, as long as there are people around with iPhones; which fortunately was our case.

It was just great to double-confirm that your bag also made it on the plane! Or sometimes European airlines randomly set a bunch of suitcases out in the open for anyone to come by and snag. This is great if it's a communal object like a bike or a ballpoint pen, but a little different when it has your clothes in it! So with the AirTags we could walk right to where our bags where, without freaking out that we don't speak the language, and why in the world is everyone suddenly on break when your airplane lands and it's time to retrieve your suitcase? Were they busy working when the planes were flying and there was no luggage around? How do I apply for that job?

When we boarded for our Mediterranean cruise, we could track that the porters got our bags on board the ship. Peace of mind.

And the AirTags are so small, they don't take up any room and easily slip into a pocket, or the bottom of the backpack. So if sticky fingers happened to walk off with my backpack, they would not easily find my AirTag broadcasting it's location. Peace of mind.

When we took a later trip to Costa Rica, same thing. Peace of mind knowing that I can track exactly where my bags are.

I've become obsessed with my AirTags and wish I would have found them sooner. I highly, highly recommend these. They have been worth every penny in the peace of mind I've found.

Ultimate Tracker for Cat and Keys
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2023

I've recently purchased the Apple 4-Pack AirTags. These little devices have made tracking so much easier, whether it's for our adventurous indoor cat or for those keys we put down in the wrong place.

The AirTags are exceptionally easy to set up and use. With just a few taps on our iPhone, we were able to link each AirTag to our device. Now, no matter where our curious cat decides to hide or if we misplace our keys, locating them is just a few taps away.

One of the standout features of these AirTags is their precise accuracy. We've been able to track down our cat, who has a knack for getting into tight and obscure places, without any issue. Similarly, if we ever misplace our keys, the AirTags have proven to be an invaluable tool for finding them quickly and efficiently. The only challenge is with multi-level homes as it takes a little more detective work to figure out if the item is on which floor.

The design of the AirTags is also commendable. They're sleek, compact, and fit onto a keychain or a cat collar without any trouble.

One point worth noting, however, is about replacing the batteries. The AirTag uses a standard CR2032 battery, which is easy enough to replace. But make sure to avoid batteries with a special kid-friendly coating, as the coating interferes with the contacts aligning properly. Once we figured this out, replacing the battery was much easier.

The Apple 4-Pack AirTags are a fantastic investment for anyone looking to keep track of their belongings (or adventurous pets!). Their ease of use, accuracy, and sleek design make them a standout product. Despite the minor hiccup with battery replacement along with knowing where the item is in vertical space, these AirTags have proven to be reliable and incredibly useful. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a top-notch tracking solution!

Maybe a better alternative than Tile!
Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2023
Brief content visible, double tap to read full content.
Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

I’ve tried a bunch of trackers now, including some no-name brands and the big name, Tile. Always wanted to try Airtags because I have so many Apple products, it seems like a natural extension of that. My dogs were originally on Fi collar subscriptions, but that got expensive ($350+ for 3 years each dog, which was reasonable when we went camping a lot, but lately I just stay home and work from home, and dogs enjoy the fenced yard). I wanted a way to still keep tabs on them just in case they got loose in the neighborhood. Bought a 4 pack of resale “used good” quality, and aside from a little damage to the original packaging, they worked just like new. It was extremely easy to set up, considering that already had the app (just Find My Phone, that every Apple device comes preloaded with). All I did was pull off the protective tape and add it under “items”. It’s easy to categorize and name them individually, and even gives the cute option to give them emojis. I haven’t had mine long yet of course but I have heard the battery life challenges that of Tile. I think there is still a good use for Tile, which is that you can use the tracker to reverse track your phone… that is the main purpose I’m keeping Tiles (I probably lose my phone more often than my keys, which the Tiles are attached to). It seems to me the Airtags have a bit more range. My original plan was to put one in luggage, one on the remote, then 2 on the 2 dogs, since I am traveling next month. However then, I found that the convex nature of the airtag plus convexity of the remote make it difficult to stick one to the other. I found some special silicone cases just for Fire TV remotes, but then I also found that they did not fit my particular Insignia remote… could not find that model at all. Then I decided this is silly, I’m just going to buy a new generation pro remote separately that had the tracking/beep built in already—because airtag ($25) + airtag-holding remote cover ($15) were already more expensive than the new remote ($32). This way, I can save my airtag for something else, like my purse (and after all, my remote will never walk out of my house). Just as a summary, I like everything else about it so far (including on dog collars, if you buy a waterproof tag holder separately), but the accessories can get expensive, so I’d look into special devices that already use smart technology integrated, especially on convex surface objects like remotes. I think they really should sell more bundles with the accessories and stickers included.

Not perfect, but it saved my dog's life

      Updates:

1.When the dogs start howling at the coyotes at 6:30 in the morning, I play one dog’s AirTag once or twice and they all stop howling.

      2. We got a new black cat who is famous for hiding and not being found. I trained him to come out when I beep his AirTag. Sometimes I just use the find my app to find him rather than calling him out. Once he got out of the house at night and ran into the desert. I was able to track him by beeping his AirTag. He’s so black I would not have been able to find him without it. There are so many predators out here that it may have saved his life.

      3. I got an iPhone 13 ProMax. I’d hoped I could use the AirTag to find my car in a parking lot. It doesn’t really work for that. You’re better off just putting a pin in your map to help you find your car. My phone only starts sensing the tag when I’m within 15 feet or so. I usually have to be a lot closer than that for it to point towards the AirTag. So it works to find the cat in the house, but not my car. This is a great device to tell you approximately where something is, but it’s not perfect. Oddly, if it’s too dark, it will tell me it needs more light. I sure don’t understand that.

Now the original review on how it saved my dog’s life…

Got Air Tags for each of my dogs. Even decided to update my phone to better track them, but that's not happening until April. We live in the wilderness. There are very few people out here and fewer iphones. When our dogs go exploring, we can't find them via the AirTag (though one time my dog appearantly came across a hiker with an iphone as she registered as being on the trail.) However, when my husband goes biking and takes the dog, as long as they have cellphone coverage, we can see where they're at.

This morning I took Annie with me to pick up a Home Depot curbside order. Ran into Target to get some lettuce. Came out and Annie was gone. It became appearant I left the back windows open too much and she jumped out.

The Air Tag had issues. It would tell me where she was, so I would drive there, but by the time I got there, she was gone. It wouldn't refresh and look for her, so I kept missing her. Called Apple to see if they could track her, but they said they're not meant for a moving target. I filed her as lost in the app, but once she blipped on my phone, it automatically shut off the "Notify when found" even though I hadn't found her, she'd just been in the vicinity. So while I was frantically trying to find her, I was having to set the app to notify me when it found her. However, it let me know about where she was so I knew how to focus my search.

She spent most of her day in the a wild, dry river wash where the tag wouldn't signal because it's below street level and there were no iphones down there. (Though when I was near her a couple times it didn't ding. One of those times was when I ran into really busy traffic to stop cars from hitting her, so we were in cell zone and she was close to my phone.) Met some really nice people (a mall security guard and some homeless people) that spent hours helping me find her. Plus a dad and daughter on bikes that just happened to see her. Three times she and I looked at each other and she ran away from me. I've heard dogs go into survival mode after about a week on the road and will run from their families, but this was only a few hours. (She was feral when I got her so maybe she just reverted faster.) Finally, at sunset, I went home. Except she kept beeping off the AirTag. (She only did that once an hour during the day and now it was more frequent.) I worried she'd been hit by a car.

I drove back to the mall with Harvey, her dog-BFF. For three hours she circled around me and Harvey. She was afraid of us, but she was also staying near and watching. When she went away, Harvey and I went into the van to escape the cold. Then the air tag would ding. We'd get out of the car and play "Where's Waldo" in the dark. Eventually I'd see her just standing there watching us from the shadows. Then she'd disappear agin. Then the tag said she was back. I wondered if this would be easier with a newer iphone as mine is only a 7Plus.

At 12:40 a.m., she walked towards the van. I partially opened the door and stuck my head out. "Hi, Annie." And finally, she recognized me. After 13 hours of driving, walking, riding my bike (my husband brought me my bike,) and sitting out in the cold so she could see me, she finally recognized me. She wagged her tail, came up to me, and got in the van.

The AirTag had issues, but it gave me ideas as to where she was. Without the tag, I would not have been able to find her. A few years ago our rescued ex-bait dog stayed with my parents while we were on vacation. They live a couple hours away. Shortly after we got home, the dog jumped their fence. I drove up immediately to try and find her. We looked for two weeks. She was sighted so many different places miles apart (Facebook has great dog-finding groups.) Saddly, she was hit and killed. If she'd had an AirTag, we would have known about where she was and we would have found her. I hope the AirTag works better when I get my Iphone 13 in a couple weeks. However, even not working great, it saved my dog's life.

Good for so much more than tracking your luggage...
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2024

I’m about to go on a trip with my wife, so I splurged and bought this 4-pack of Apple Air Tags to keep track of my luggage. It wasn’t until after they arrived that I realized how useful they’d be.

The first thing I noticed, was that Apple doesn’t include any type of case or holder for these things. If you want an Apple branded key-chain, you have to go spend another $35 bucks (which is actually more than the airtags themselves). I opted for this aftermarket version that costs a fraction of that, and they work perfectly.

The batteries were already installed, but they take the CR2032, which is arguably the most common and readily available of the flat ‘button’ batteries. Changing the battery is simple; You just push down and twist ¼ turn counterclockwise. Top pops off. Batteries are supposed to last about a year. Time will tell, but how often you ping (look for it on your phone) is a huge factor in battery life.

As far as the water resistance claim, I wasn’t brave enough to test it. I have no plans to swim with these, or to leave them outside exposed to the elements. But I’m sure that the IP67 claim is true, and was validated by an outside authority. Despite my cowardice in water testing, I’m sure that they’d be fine with a little rain or a spilled drink.

Functionally, they work off of Bluetooth, so they’re only good for about ten yards. But every iPhone that comes close enough puts it on the map. If you have an iPhone that’s version 11 or newer, you can find things from across the country, to across the living room, and into a specific side of a drawer. The technology is incredible, and the fact that I can have it for less than $30 is mind-blowing.

In addition to my luggage, I was planning to leave one in my vehicle in case it was stolen. But after a little investigation, I discovered that Apple has built an alert into their IOS that tells anyone close enough that there is an Air Tag nearby. This is supposedly so that you can’t use them to covertly track anyone, like your teenager. There is also an app for Android phones, that also lets them know. The people nearby can also activate the Air Tag to make a sound, so that they can pinpoint it. So forget about hiding one in your vehicle.

At home, they could go on epi-pen or insulin totes, keyrings, backpacks, and purses. If I had small kids, pets, or any family member with dementia or special needs, I’d have one clipped on them at all times. Anyway, absolutely love these.

      Hope this helps!

Quick take: Reliable trackers that integrate perfectly with iPhone. Setup is effortless, the Find My network coverage is excellent, and the precision finding feature works as advertised. You need accessories to attach them to keys or bags, and they only work fully in Apple’s ecosystem, but they do their job very well.

      My setup and use case

I paired four AirTags with an iPhone in less than a minute each. I use one on keys, one in a backpack, one in luggage, and one on a bike. Each shows up in the Find My app with custom names and icons.

      Setup and integration

Pull the tab, hold it near the phone, and it pairs instantly. You can rename each tag and assign an emoji. They show up in the same app I already use to find my devices, which makes it simple.

      Tracking performance

Around the house, precision finding with an iPhone guides me with arrows and distance until I’m right next to the tag. Outside, the tags piggyback on the huge Find My network, so when I left my backpack at a café it showed up quickly once another iPhone user passed nearby. Sound alerts are loud enough to hear in a bag or under a couch cushion.

      Battery life

Runs on standard CR2032 coin cells. Mine lasted close to a year before the app notified me to replace. Swapping the battery takes seconds with a twist.

      Durability

The white plastic scratches easily if you drop them in a pocket with keys. Function isn’t affected but they do scuff. I recommend a key ring holder or case if you want them looking new.

      What I like

      • Fast, foolproof setup with iPhone

      • Accurate precision finding indoors

      • Huge Find My network coverage outdoors

      • Replaceable batteries that last about a year

      • Compact and light enough to fit anywhere

      What to know before buying

      • Works best in Apple’s ecosystem; Android users get limited functionality

      • Holders and key rings are sold separately and add cost

      • Plastic surface scratches easily

      • Sound is loud but not piercing; might be harder to hear in very noisy areas

      Bottom line

If you’re an iPhone user who misplaces keys, bags, or luggage, these are the most seamless trackers available. I would rate them 5 out of 5 for ease of use, accuracy, and integration, with minor cosmetic downsides.

The Apple AirTag is one of the smartest little gadgets I’ve ever bought. Setup was incredibly easy — I just brought it close to my iPhone and it paired instantly. I put one in my car, one on my keys, and one in my luggage, and now I never have to worry about losing them again. The Precision Finding feature is super accurate, guiding me right to my misplaced items within seconds. It’s lightweight, durable, and the battery lasts about a year, which is very convenient.

What really impressed me is how well it works even when I’m far from my items. Thanks to the huge Find My network, my AirTag can still be located almost anywhere. It gives me total peace of mind knowing I can track important things anytime. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem and want a reliable way to keep tabs on your belongings, this is absolutely worth every penny!
