Best Monitor
Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2023This is a great monitor. I have nothing bad to say about it. It came fully assembled with its stand. Just plug it in and away you go. All controls are through your Mac. It can be turned up brighter than any monitor I have ever seen. I use it for CAD and this gives you a lot of space to work, at an amazing resolution. With a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse I have only one wire on my desk. Well worth the money.

This monitor and others have a high failure rate due to power issues
Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2025I bought two of these. Both were great for the first year, and then the first one started to fail to power on. Same thing happened to the second monitor 6 months later. As far as I can read, it's a USB-C power issue, having to do with weak connectors. Not easy to repair on your own, and I have no official LG service centers in my area. I think I'm just going to dump them. What a tragedy. The monitor itself is just fine, but because of one cheap part the whole product just becomes more trouble than it's worth. You screwed up pretty bad on this one, LG.

Beautiful monitor, colors not remotely accurate for video editing
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2019Read a lot of reviews about this product and was so pleased upon purchase, thinking I had truly purchased the best product for the money, and for my profession as a video & film editor, doing our own color in-house. I was pleased to know that Apple also sold this monitor, that it was basically "endorsed" by Apple, and that it had so many great reviews. Some of the reviews mentioned one would not be able to correctly calibrate the monitor like many other professional video monitors, but that one would not have to as it automatically calibrates, and has certain picture profiles you can use to your liking. So I decided to roll with it despite my hesitancy of not being able to control (with actual buttons) the color calibration of the monitor.
I am very unhappy to say that the color rendering of this monitor is TOTALLY off, despite any color profile I use (or download and try from other videographers). It is way too saturated and heavy in the reds, leaving me having to guess during a color correct & delivery of a short film to a distribution platform. Upon using both the color scopes and my eye (using this monitor as what I thought was the "color accurate" monitor), I tested my video on an LG television, an iMac Pro, a Macbook Pro, and iPhone 11, and also a Vizio television, and it looked very desaturated and green/blue (meaning that the saturation on this monitor was too heavy, and the reds are also oversaturated, so I over corrected to compensate, making it desaturated and dialing back the reds so much that it became green/blue). Basically, this monitor is absolute garbage if you're a bedroom colorist and relying on it for accuracy. I had to color my film 3 times using only the scopes, not the monitor itself, (and a little guesswork) to tell me what was going to look good on a broad scope of devices, rather than using my supposedly color accurate monitor to show me the true image.
The detail level is insane, it is SO beautiful and accurate and the image detail is so fine. I also really love the design, I love that you can lift it up and down, and I love the matte screen. There is a lot to like. Unfortunately the most important thing for me was totally wrong. So I can't give it more than 3 stars.
I have requested a refund from the seller and hope they hear my concerns. The monitor just isn't accurately portrayed on the description and the color issues are just a huge problem for videographers and photographers. If you're a gamer or something else this is a great monitor and you should definitely get it tho!

The best 5K monitor for Mac
Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018I bought this monitor to pair with my iMac Pro and now 2018 Mac mini. The monitor is great. Although iMac Pro 5K Retina display still hands down wins the race in every detail of picture and sound, but this LG 27MD5KA-B or 27MD5KB-B are the only monitors available that could come closer to iMac's own 5K display. Even my other shot-listed LG's latest 34" 5K display ( LG34WK95U ) is white on the back and has less overall pixels/resolution than this 27MD5KA-B. Another plus for me was this 27" matches up really great with both iMac Pro and Mac mini space grey colour, even the stand/base of the monitor resembles a bit like iMac has. Thats why I didn't get their latest 34" 5K screen I just did not like its stand. Not sure why they didn't go with aluminium enclosure but collaboration between Apple and LG can be seen.
Sound is loud, not much bass in the monitor but treble and so is the lower mids.
So far I am happy with my purchase, and have no issues. Mine manufactured date is Aug 2018 and I picked up from Apple store at retail price.
I was really reluctant to buy this monitor at this stage but still ended up getting one as no-one knows except Apple if they will ever release their own monitor in the near future. And if I had taken a chance not to buy it and wait for the next year to see if Apple comes up with something, it is good if they do but if not then I am screwed up totally, and by that time these might all be gone, and only see them on eBay or other marketplaces for ridiculously insane 3x of its MSRP or something.
Ignore all those rubbish comments about monitor is wobbling, well you are not going to do wrestling with it. The body is plastic not aluminium, so what would you expect from it?
Anyways, although its not a full 5 star product in every aspect. But this is still the best one out there if you want something to pair with your iMac 5K Retina, MacBook Pro or Mac mini. There is no other option currently exists as of this date up to this quality. Doesn't matter whether you get A or B series, both are technically same as far as I know and try to get the manufactured date of Feb 2018 onwards I think.

Warren Snider5 out of 5 starsBest Mac monitor I've used
Reviewed in Canada on June 16, 2023Absolutely perfect. The best picture quality I've seen on a monitor. 100% rec. for Mac users. 1/2 the price of the Apple display and just as good. This is my go to monitor from now on.
No more headaches and eye irritation. I can also view it perfectly while wearing polarized sunglasses. Not that everyone wears sunglasses while at their desk, but....

Chad Jarema5 out of 5 starsThe king of monitors
Reviewed in Canada on August 28, 2020This is the perfect marriage to a MacBook pro! It works especially well with the BlackMagic eGPU but is not required. I do work in Final Cut Pro and I require the eGPU for rendering. The screen is excellent for editing video and the color accuracy is really good. This is a high-quality monitor for sure and highly recommended for a mac product to get the best usage. The flow-through power to the laptop eliminates the need to use up another USB-C port for charging the laptop. The extra USB-C ports on the back are great for high-speed data transfer devices. Overall, this monitor was clearly designed with the latest technology in mind and for the mac environment.

MS4 out of 5 starsGreat monitor with a nice design, but.......
Reviewed in Canada on April 15, 2024This is a great looking monitor with a nice design and a tilt and height adjustment and even some slight horizontal adjustment, but it sits on a single pole support and is less stable than a Mac studio monitor. If you are moving your mouse quickly back and forth on the mousepad like you might drawing or retouching in Photoshop the monitor wiggles back and forth because it is on that single pole support. Not a huge deal but LG could have taken their cue from Mac and made the monitor support wider to avoid this issue easily.

Amazon Customer5 out of 5 starsWorks great with Mac mini.
Reviewed in Canada on July 8, 2024A perfect lower cost alternative to the Apple monitor. Apparently at some point Apple was in collaboration with LG and previously sold these in their stores. This has a sixty hertz refresh rate which is fine for my needs. I am not a gamer who needs higher refresh rates. I ended up buying two.

Reviewed in Canada on August 27, 2023Best 5 K monitor you can buy for your MAC computer. I have 2 monitors now in dual view. The price is totally worth it conspired to the Mac Studio display. This monitor comes with the USB C cable and has 3 ports on the back for USB C connections and with power to charge your device.
