Everything about this adapter looks genuine to me. The small package in which it comes looks well made, and it even had a safety seal; The user's manual and the Apple warranty information; And the adapter itself looks really nice quality, properly assembled and looks resistant.

The adapter is smaller than I imagined, which is a good thing in my opinion. The only Apple device I currently own is a 4th Gen iPod Touch, and it works perfectly with this adapter.

Plugs can be exposed or hidden with a 90º turn.

Using it with a 4th Gen Apple iPod Touch, and no problems so far.

Giving it 4 stars so far because I started using it today. I'll this review in some time (weeks, maybe), and I'll upload a video for all those who might find it useful.

Gave 5 stars. This adapter is still working flawlessly and going strong! It charges mi iPod Touch 4G amazingly fast. I recommend it to everyone.

As far as I can tell, this is in every way equal to the original part. It works flawlessly and brings my iPhone and iPad up to 100% charge within a reasonable period of time: the iPhone the fastest, about an hour to full charge from zero. The iPad seems to need about two hours to full charge.

This was among the more expensive versions of this and there are several that look exactly the same and perform horribly. These lookalike products are a real crapshoot: you can pay pennies and get something that doesn't work at all or full price for something that works as well or better than the original. There is plenty in between, with some of the more expensive ones not performing up to speed. My recommendation is either to go down and dirty, buy several so you get just one that works, or pay top dollar for reliability.

This time out I chose top dollar and don't regret it.

Note a couple of errors from Amazon: First, the product description is for a completely different product, the MagSafe laptop charger, not this USB iPad charger; second, Amazon implies this only works on Lightning connector iPads etc. With respect to the Lightning connector, since this doesn't come with ANY connector, technically it won't even work with the iPad 4 etc. ... unless you used the connector that came with your device, D'oh. Similarly it will work with the old style connector on old style devices - assuming you have both (device and connector). Likewise it will work with other devices, even non-Apple products, if they power off a USB port and you have the connecting cable for that 3rd party device.

There's no need to buy the older 10 watt model of this Apple iPad charger. This is the one that was introduced with the iPad 4 to allow faster charging (20% faster in theory) and it is backwards compatible with all iOS devices from the original iPhone through the Touches and up to the tablets. It may (or may not) charge SOME of the Apple devices faster than the original chargers that came with them (hopefully, for example, the iPad 3) - Apple has a way of reading the power capacity of its devices and providing more power if it is safe. If it is NOT safe to deliver more power on an Apple device, the charger will revert to a lower power mode for safe charging.

With non-Apple products, the odds are this charger will revert to 5 watt or even lower USB power standards to protect third part devices. Even if the third party device is a tablet that would be happy with more power and can in fact draw more power from its own stock charger.

What this means in terms of actual use is this:

1. You can replace all the tiny cube and former larger rectangular Apple chargers with this when you travel, and each Apple device you attach will draw the right amount of power.

2. You can safely use this on non-Apple products, but is they want a lot of power the Apple probably won't deliver it since the Apple charger won't know that's "safe."

So the Apple charger is close to, but not quite, a "one stop" replacement for all the other USB port chargers you have. It WILL work with 3rd party devices, but maybe charge some of them more slowly than their own native charger will.

Blame the USB standards group for not adopting a universal protocol for communicating "safe power" levels through the USB ports, not Apple. At least we don't have to carry both classic Apple cube, and the larger iPad chargers, around all the time (unless you have to charge them both at the same time, in which case don't throw out or give away or old Apple cube charger).

FWIW we have used the new charger on a Google Nexus 7 tablet (charges as fast as the stock charger), on iPhone 3gs and iPhone 4, on iPad mini, 3 and 4 and haven't had a hiccup. Even on an old dumb phone with a micro USB port.

- Note for 1st gen iPad owners - a commenter has reported this will NOT work on the first gen iPads. I will look into this, but in the meantime either buy the 10 watt edition, or check with the Genius Bar at the Apple store before purchasing! Update: the wording from Apple's own site is not clear, but several users report it works fine on the first gen iPad.

We were done with the off-brand chargers doing half the job when charging our iPad Pro's. I bit the bullet and paid for the more expensive Apple brand, and could not be happier. This is an authentic Apple product, and is very high quality. We immediately noticed a dramatic improvement in charging time on our iPad Pro's. There are some grumpy reviews on this, but the two that we purchased are authentic Apple products, brand new in retail Apple packaging. They work so well, we couldn't be happier with the purchase.

I purchased this the Apple 12W USB Power Adapter directly from Amazon.com (not from any third party seller) and the item I received is an official Apple product. The charger is very well made, and it works as well as any other Apple power adapter I've owned (though a bit better, as my previous one, included with my iPad, is only 10W).

I've included some detailed pictures of the product and packaging to help any people who are concerned that they may have received a "fake" product. The adapter arrives in a sturdy cardboard box with a plastic pull tab featuring an orange arrow. I've also included photos of the box's contents, as well as the information printed on the actual adapter (as checking accuracy of this information is often the best way to tell a counterfeit product).

If there are any additional concerns, Apple actually has a page on their site with detailed pictures of all of their different power adapters and how to identify that yours is an authentic Apple product. I can't include a non-Amazon URL, unfortunately, but you can easily reach this page with a Google Search of "About Apple USB Power Adapters."

Please buy only AUTHENTIC products when it comes to things like power adapters. I know most people don't like to spend so much on an adapter, and there's others who like to buy into the whole "Everything Apple is overpriced" mentality. Unfortunately, when it comes to a device that can potentially start fires, this isn't really something to take a chance with. If something does happen with the charger or because of the charger, you definitely want there to be a large multinational company to take responsibility and not some made-up brand based out of a warehouse in China. Third-party chargers can be UNSAFE, are generally very poorly made, and often do not even charge anywhere close to the claimed output.

This IS the only charger you want to purchase for your apple devices (iPhone 6,5s,5,IPad Air,IPad 2,etc.) rock solid and reliable. I deducted one star for two reasons... Both apply to overall value, apple has recently began transitioning to a new standard on their products called USB C which will be primarily supported by them in the beginning, and hopefully others will jump on board the standard. We see how well that worked out with thunderbolt... USB 2 was fine for charging mobile devices like phones and tablets... I know the new "standard" can deliver up to 100w which can power laptop computers, but that does not mean they should obsolete all my chargers just because some newfangled tech came along...

Also, why a $20 charger no longer includes a basic length cable is beyond me... That is ridiculous that a 1m Lightning cable is not included with the unit. It used to include both a cable and a AC plug extension at this same price... -1 star for poor value apple, I'm sorry 😁 That being said I own a handful of these and they work great.

If you own the new 12" Retina MacBook (2015), this is a MUST-HAVE.

I bought this plus a third-party 3' USB 3.1 cable with one end that fits this charger and the other end a USB-C that fits the MacBook. Before using this adapter, I would charge my MacBook at home with the 29w adapter that comes with the laptop, and on the road I would use the Apple 5w brick charger (standard iPhone charger) with the same cable that I described above.

The 5w charger was basically a trickle charger. In other words, the battery would still drain as I used the laptop even plugged in, but it would not drain as quickly as it would if the computer was not plugged in.

When I use this 12w charger, it keeps my laptop at 100% even when I use it plugged in. For all intents and purposes, I cannot tell the difference between this 12w charger and the 29w that came with the laptop. My guess is that the 29w probably charges the laptop more quickly than this one, but that one costs $80 to replace and is bulkier than this one.

My recommendation to anybody who has the new 12" Retina MacBook is to buy this charger as the replacement or travel charger for the laptop. It is more compact and does the job as well as its bigger and bulkier counterpart. At a quarter of the price of the official charger, I'd call this a no-brainer.

Also, the three foot USB cable is nice for plugging into desktop outlets (like at a coffee shop or at school) since you don't have to deal with a whole bunch of unneeded cable dangling everywhere.

Oh I think the charger works just fine, I bought the Apple 12 V USB power adapter, and it is serving my purpose is wonderfully, just like the original that came with my Apple iPad Pro! I would not hesitate to purchase another one because it’s small enough for traveling pop one in my purse my suitcase my overnight bag, and never be without one. It is very well-made just like my original and I have no complaints about it heating up it seems to do just fine.

I paid 2600 for a supposedly original Apple product. It doesn't work. It's a fake supplier and a fake company

I think I received a legitimate Apple product - see attached image. Compared it to my current iPad charger and it’s pretty much the same except this one is 12 watt instead of 10 watt. Have used it to charge an iPad mini, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Works as expected. Arrived in Apple packaging and wrapping. Only thing is the prongs are a little difficult/stuck feeling but I can’t remember if my current charger did the same when it was new. Not an issue for me either way.
