Anker’s claim that this extension is “Designed for Travel” is absolutely accurate. It is lightweight, compact, and small enough to keep in your backpack or even your pocket. Since it supports 100 to 240 volts worldwide, I can simply connect it to a single universal travel plug instead of needing multiple adapters for each US electronic device I bring with me.

I use this on trains, buses, and even planes, and it has worked reliably every time. The two USB ports and two AC outlets are enough for my core devices on the go, and it makes travel charging much simpler. The flat plug is a huge advantage because travel adapters already stick out quite far, so keeping the footprint lower reduces strain and keeps the setup more stable.

Searching for this taught me how difficult it is to find a simple power strip, not an extension cord, that has a cord that’s not too long and not too short. And for some reason they think everyone wants one that has a surge protector and these days has USB power charging ports built in. That’s just not reality, if you want a surge protector having one built into a cheap power strip is almost meaningless and if you want to charge your phone you probably want to use one that is powerful enough to charge it fast and has protection against harming your phone. I don’t need those things in a basic power strip. The reason I don’t use an extension cord for certain things is I need a three prong grounded plug – most lightweight extensions don’t have that and those that do are too heavy duty.

This is one of the few I found. The cord is just over five feet, a nice manageable length and the outlet end lays flat against the desktop or floor. As a bonus the plug is the flat type and even better it exits at a right angle to the wall socket so it doesn’t get it the way of the outlet above it and can be routed either up or down. The cord is more attractive looking than most extension cords as well.

I tried the USB ports and they work and I’m sure they are useful for devices that work with them but for now I don’t need them. By the way, the reason I chose this one is I had to extend the power plug on a home voice assistant gadget that was about five feet shy of the power outlet. This worked out great for that purpose. Typically those have power transformers that are permanently attached to the cord and it feels like the connection is tighter and more secure with this than using an extension cord.

To be fair, I am a big Anker fan but a little disappointed lately. I have many cables, chargers, and battery packs. I bought them for myself, my wife, and my sons. The quality has been great but lately the manufacturing tolerances seem to be slipping. I purchased a different model called the PowerCube. After a few months, only 2/3 are still working. I guess that is spotty reliability but I suspect that Anker products are not built the way they once were. I have purchased a number of cables for charging my iphones and the durability seems to be slipping with the latest iterations. Maybe I am just hard on cables. With the PowerCube in the trash, I turned to this model without the on/off button and the thinner profile. You also lose one AC outlet. There are only two USB ports and two AC outlets. The USB ports charge my iPad and iPhone but the USB ports also make a strange rhythmic humming sound when charging my iPad or iphone. I suspect there is a transformer issue as it only makes the low level humming sound when charging from the USB port. It does perform its intended function but I am annoyed because it sits next to my bed on a night stand and I don't want to relocate it. I would not call it a defect per se but I have never had any Anker product do this before. I think I might return it to Amazon. Your mileage may vary.

Why do hotels insist on putting the one accessible plug near the bed behind the nightstand? Sure the newer hotels have a USB plug built into the lamp or something impractical like that, but I’m a gadget whore and need to charge tablets, Bluetooth headphones, phone, watch, etc.

This is perfect for hotel rooms. One wall outlet gets me 2 AC outlets and 2 USB-A outlets. If the plug is behind the nightstand I can plug this in and get all the outlets I need sitting on the nightstand. Perfect.

This was my second purchase of this power strip. I had originally bought it for travel as motel rooms often do not have enough outlets to use. It worked great on my first trip for charging up my cell phone and for plugging in my CPAP machine at the same time. Once I got home, I decided I wanted to use it in my spare bedroom as the compact size allowed me to tuck it close to a bookcase so it was barely visible. Then I plan a second vacation so had to order another one for that trip! I am very impressed with the quality and the very reasonable price.

I waited until we had about a 1.5 month body of work with this unit to see how it went before reviewing it here. We had an older product similar to this that had two USB ports on it that my wife used for a long time. After we recently upgraded our cell phones, she started to constantly get a pop up notification on her new phone warning that the phone was slow-charging and to plug it into an AC outlet rather than just USB port charging. It was a relentless once every 60 seconds pop up that you couldn't stop from happening. I replaced that old outdated unit with this one and those annoying pop-ups have disappeared because the phone is fast-charging now using the USB ports. So that removed any doubt about whether or not you can fast-charge right off the USB ports with this unit, as I read in some reviews that now appear to be untrue. There are also some reviews that said that their unit was making a humming noise while in use. Through 1.5 months we have heard no humming from ours at any time. Some of the reviews also complain that the small little subdued blue light on top of the unit is incredibly bright and annoying, to the point where it was keeping some people up at night and inspired them to come on here and write a trash review about it. I would have to think that the manufacturer must've made a design change since these reviews because my unit has a small little subdued blue light on it that's so dim and tiny (literally the size of a pin-head) that anyone who complains about it's excessive brightness has to be out of their mind. Even in a pitch-black dark room this light doesn't project any amount of light worth talking about, much less complaining about it here with a trash review. So I'll give those reviewers the benefit of the doubt that maybe at one time in the past the light was much brighter but since then they've changed the design. It HAS to be that. So far in the first 1.5 months of almost daily use, it's been nothing but great, and will hopefully stay that way. Can definitely recommend.
