A Little Milk

In honour of my dear Spilled (Skim) Milk, here are the consequences of a little spilled milk that doesn’t get cleaned up.
In the end, it all works itself out. Oh the lessons that can be learned from children’s television.

The same brothers from before supporting a worthy cause. Al-Isharah is trying to raise enough money to send 30 deaf brothers and sisters to Umrah. This past April, they sent the first group and they’re hoping to send more in 2011. Many deaf Muslims only dream of being able to go.
Here’s the website: https://www.justgiving.com/DEAFUMRAH
If you can’t donate, at the very least, keep them in your duaas.

Here are a pair of twin brothers, one is deaf and one isn’t. They show how life is in the eyes of a deaf person. Subhan Allah, you see how dependent the brother is on others, and how grateful he is to his brother. Alhamdulillah Allah gave us our senses in perfect health.
One of my goals insha Allah

Methinks I should maybe update my blog. First of all, I’d like to say Ramadan Mubarak to all of my bee-youtiful brothers and sisters in Islam. May Allah make it easy for you to make the very most of this Ramadan and to really do all the good deeds you can to get your sins forgiven. Ameen.
Now, to move onto the topic of this post. Some months ago, probably half a year ago, I was going through my cousin’s iPod and there was this video on hijab. There was one sister in particular who caught my attention. At her masjid, they were giving a lecture on Ramadan (how ironic) to a group of deaf Muslim brothers and sisters. Now, you may ask how exactly they were doing that. Well, one brother was giving the lecture, while the sister was giving it to them in sign language. I thought it was so cool! From that day, it has been one of my goals to learn ASL (American Sign Language). I taught myself the alphabet all those months ago, but I have since forgotten it. So now I am reviving my goal (since Ramadan is a good month to start goals) and sharing it with all of you. Insha Allah I’ll be posting videos and pictures along the way. People always speak about the virtues of learning new languages, and I want to make ASL one of those that I learn. Feel free to join me if you’d like. So bismillah, let us begin.

I found this written in my journal; I had gotten it from some school textbook. It says that if the world’s population were shrunk to 100 people, this is how it would look:
– 57 would be Asian, 21 European, 14 from the Western hemisphere (both North and South), and 8 African
– 52 would be female, 48 male
– 70 non-white, 30 white
– 70 non-Christian, 30 Christian
– 6 would own 59% of the wealth, all from USA
– 80 would live in substandard housing
– 70 would be unable to read
– 50 would suffer malnutrition
– 1 would be near death
– 1 would be pregnant
– 1 would have a college/ university education
– 1 would own a computer
Just thought it was a bit interesting. We pride ourselves on being so educated and sophisticated, but when you look at it, there are so few people who have the things we were blessed with. Alhamdulillah.
The Simple Life

My Father's Jewel Thoughts and Reflections Leave a comment
When we think of the past, what comes to mind? I’m sure many of us think of how simple life was. At least I do. Back then, people found easy ways to entertain themselves. Their days were set out for them, full of hard work during the day and family time during the evenings. Many of them had little money to spend, most of it being used on things that mattered, with little to spare on spoiling themselves. Despite all of this, they were happy.
Of course this is a great generalization, so I ask you to bear with me for the purpose of this post. Today, we seem to have lost this simplicity. While the introduction of such things as televisions and the internet have brought many benefits to society, it has not come without its consequences. In the hustle and bustle of everyday, we find that we have no time for anything and we watch as our lives quickly pass by us. Days turn into years, and before we know it, we’re on our deathbeds wondering where the time has gone.
We seem to have lost the barakah in our time that our forefathers had. They were able to accomplish so much and more in less than half the time it takes us. The secret to their success was their excellent time management skills, planning out what they did carefully and taking advantage of the best times to get their work done. They were able to take care of both their dunya and akhira and excel at both.
What many of us don’t realize is that we can gain the simplicity of the past back. Simplicity doesn’t mean having little money; it is when we don’t get too caught up in the things that don’t matter at the detriment of the things that do. As much as we might not like to admit it, our akhira many times gets pushed to the side because of things we deem more urgent. In many cases, if we were just to manage our time better, we could get everything that we want done plus more. How many times have you wished that you hadn’t wasted that half hour or that you had just one more day to finish whatever you needed finished?
I say let’s rewind to how it was in the past and start to live more simply. Let’s slow our fast-paced lives down a bit, breathe a little, and take it one day at a time. We can get everything done and more insha Allah, if we learn to better manage our time. That is key. After all, time is all we have, as the tabi’ee Hasan al-Basri, rahimuhullah, said,
Son of Adam, you are nothing but days, and whenever a day passes away, a part of you passes away.
So, here’s something practical we can do (as there’s no use in gaining knowledge if we aren’t going to put it into action): write down what’s wasting our time and make a commitment to stop doing it. Write down what we’ll do instead during that time. Another thing we can do is every night write down a plan or schedule of what we want to get done the next day. Let’s take advantage of blessed times, such as after fajr, instead of sleeping. And most of all, let’s ask Allah to place barakah in our time and to help us accomplish everything that we want, making us better than best. When we obey Allah and live life according to His guidelines, we will reach success both in this life and the next insha Allah.

Okay, so the last time I posted something was in November of last year, and it wasn’t even much of anything. Because it was so long ago, I thought I might let everyone know that I am indeed alive and well alhamdulillah. I guess I just got caught up with schoolwork and other things. Anywho, insha Allah I will start posting some actual stuff in the next few days.
