It’s Moving Day…(yes, again!)

Well folks, I have decided to move back to Blogger.

I know, I know.

I just moved this blog here in December.

I’m just fed up with not being happy with the template designs and really wanted the flexibility of being able to customize my blog to fit my moods, the seasons, holidays, whatever.  WordPress simply wasn’t doing it for me.

The new blog is :  A Long And Winding Road .

Same name, new url.

***Please note, the blog address is different from the blog name.  The url is https://theroadfromtheretohere.blogspot.com but the blog name is still A Long and Winding Road.

Confused?

Yeah.  Me too.

Sorry.

Please update your subscriptions and blogreaders and such.  Thanks!!!

See ya at my new digs!!!

Welcome to show and tell!!!

I usually don’t share pics of my knitting projects until they’re done, but since a) nothing very exciting is going on, and b) I’m seriously in love with these socks, I figured I’d break my rule for Show and Tell this week.  I have the first one done and am furiously working on getting the second one done this weekend.

Why Saturday needs a spanking…

So…yeah.  Yesterday blew.

Not the whole day.

Just the part from 6pm on.

I worked yesterday, (I work 12 hour shifts and am on days, so that meant 6am to 6pm).

I went to leave, and got halfway down the mammoth hill we have at my work, and noticed a huge rock in the middle of the road.  I swerved to miss said rock, and instead wound up hitting it head on with my right front tire.

Yes.

You guessed it.

Said tire blew instantly.

After a few colorful expletives (after which I had to ask for forgiveness as I’m trying very hard to not do that anymore), I finally got the car down to the flat part of the road and got out to check the car.

Yep.  Tire was flatter than a pancake.

After a few more colorful expletives I set to the task of hauling the spare, jack and tire iron out of the trunk.  We live about 20 miles from my work, so I didn’t want Matt to have to come help me change the tire if I could at all avoid it.  And, let’s face it, I’m stubborn.  I can change a dang tire.

Well, apparently the jack hadn’t been used since Jesus was in diapers, because the dang thing was a pain in my ample backside to get started.  I called up to my work and asked the supervisor to call one of the tow companies we work with (I’m a dispatcher for 9-1-1…the job does have it’s benefits!) to see if they could come help me.

And I started crying.

Which I hate.

When I get frustrated I cry.  Can’t help it.  It’s how I’m made.

So…I decided to prove to myself and everyone else that yes, I could indeed change the stupid tire myself.

About a half an hour and several bucketloads of sweat later, hands blackened from brake dust, grease and dirt from the jack, I had the spare tire on.

I called my work back and told them to cancel the tow truck, that I had the tire on and would be on my way.

I threw the blown tire, jack, and tire iron back into the trunk and get in the car to head home.

What’s that?

What happened then, you say?

I drove 50 feet and the DAMN SPARE TIRE WENT FLAT TOO!!!

I give up at this point, call Matt and break down.  He turns off dinner (he was making homemade spaghetti for me), loads my stepson up, and comes galloping up on his noble white steed, sword drawn, ready to slay the dragon that is my tire dilemma.

Ok, so he drove up in his black 4 door with his phone in hand making sure he didn’t miss the turn to my work.  But you get the picture.

Since we have the same make and model of car, we took the crap spare off, put his good spare on my car, loaded back up again and headed home.

At 8:30 I walked in the door.  2 hours and 30 minutes AFTER I got off work.

Thank GOD Sunday behaved a million times better than Saturday did.  🙂

Two tires blown in one day:  2.5 hours time lost.

Unplanned dinner out for 2 adults and 1 child:  $20.39.

Having a husband that will drop everything at your beck and call to come rescue you:  PRICELESS!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A while back I wrote this post.  I wasn’t ready at that time to discuss the amazing “God Moment” that I just had.  But, after a lot of work, a lot of prayer, and a lot of nail-biting “am I ready to put this out there what if someone makes fun of me” moments, I’m ready to unveil the labor of love I’ve been working on.
After some serious prayer and finally listening to what God was impressing upon my heart, I have launched a new website.  It is a message board forum for Christian women to support and encourage each other on our daily walks with God through prayer and sharing.
The site is called “Let Me Sow Love: A Meeting Place for Christian Women” .
I felt a strong calling to develop a prayer ministry for women, especially women facing infertility.  I feel this is something I’m supposed to do.  Several months ago I met some wonderful women through a web chat and formed an immediate bond and we started a prayer “email chain”.  I have never felt a pull as strong to do something than when I began praying daily for these women.  I don’t have many resources, I don’t have a lot of time to donate as a volunteer, but what I do have is powerful.  I have a desire, and a capability to pray.  And that is what I’m offering.
The website isn’t *only* for women facing infertility, but I want it to be a site where infertile women can feel comfortable.  There are a zillion “Christian Mommy” sites out there, and while that is awesome and totally serves a valid need and community, I feel there is a need for a space where the focus isn’t so much on our titles or reproductive status.  This site will simply be a site for Christian WOMEN to meet, exchange ideas, encourage and support each other, receive encouragement and support, and learn more about God and faith journeys from other incredible Christian women.  While I understand the “mommy” factor is relevant, I didn’t want that to become the focus of the site, nor do I want infertility to become the focus.  I want the focus to be prayer, women supporting and encouraging women, and most importantly GOD.  He is the reason the new forum exists.
Feel free to take a look at my site…pass it along to anyone you feel might be interested.
***And please be gentle…this is my heart out there!
I missed my own blogoversary!
That’s how much of a fog I’ve been in lately. I deleted my first two blogs (this is the 3rd incarnation of my blogging endeavor) and unfortunately I can’t remember exactly what day I began blogging, but I want to say it was September 16th. And I believe it was 9/16/05…so brilliant me missed my own FIVE YEAR BLOGOVERSARY! Now that takes talent.
Anyway, happy blogoversary self…and thank you to all my readers, supporters and friends I’ve made along the way. It’s been quite a journey…
Lame excuse for a post…
I’m still here.  It’s been a rough couple of weeks for me, getting back into the swing of being on night shift, some issues I’m dealing with, and coming down with an early season cold and such.  But I’m here.  I’m sorry I haven’t been commenting on your blogs, I’ve been reading and thinking about all of you, and keeping you all in my prayers.
I’m kind of at a loss for anything witty, insightful or inspiring to write about.  I’m just tapped out right now.
I did finally finish the gifts I was working on for my friend in PA.  Since I know she’s already received them, I will post pics of them now.
I was really happy with the way they both turned out.  These patterns were “firsts” for me, I hadn’t done them before, so it was nice to kind of stretch my legs a bit and venture out of the ordinary.
I’m now knitting on another pair of socks for myself.  I love knitting socks, and this pair is turning out really nice so far.
(My mom made the little blue bag so I can carry my sock knitting project with me.  And it comes in quite handy!)
If you’re curious about the patterns or more info about these knitting projects, you can click on my Ravelry button on the right sidebar and it will take you to my Ravelry page where you can see what I’ve been working on.  🙂
I guess I’ll sign off for now.  Sorry this was such a lame post, I just don’t feel like saying much right now.  😦
Our Big Day
For the second time in six years, we stood side by side at the altar of a church and made a declaration before God, family, friends, and members of our community.
The first time was on November 20, 2004 when we made our vows to each other and became husband and wife.
This second time was today August 22, 2010 when we were confirmed as full members in the church we can now call “ours”.
Today’s service, as was our wedding, was small and simple.  No grand pomp and show, just Matt and I standing with our four fellow confirmands with our Pastor in front of the church.  It was a beautiful and deeply personal day for me.
Matt’s parents were there, my Mom came down, but the part that touched me the most and meant the world to me was that my best friend was there too.
After the service, we had a little “meet and greet” reception where we were presented with a few gifts; a cross, a copy of Luther’s Small Catechism, and a certificate commemorating our Confirmation day.
I chose to hang my cross in the “heart of our home”, our living room:
My husband on the other hand, chose a little LESS reverent way of displaying his:
Hey, a Christian's gotta have a sense of humor...and some BLING!
When we got home, I felt a little wistful.  I’m not good with “endings” or change.  I’m kind of sad that our classes are over, that we won’t have that opportunity for discussion and learning about our faith that we had during the classes.  But, I realize, for any change and growth to happen, there needs to be an ending and progression to the next phase.  So, now I am looking onward to the next phase of my journey with Christ and I am anxious to see what He has in store for me.
Thank you to everyone who has been with me in thought and in prayer through this journey.  I truly appreciate all of you.  My prayers are always with you.
In His love,
Rebecca
ICLW ~ August 2010
WELCOME BACK for another fun bloggy lovefest week of ICLW!!!  Glad you’re here, stop and stay a while if you like.  Feel free to explore the archives and the tabs up on the header to get a feel for who I am and what I’m about.
Since we all know I love ICLW and I love memes, and we especially know I love to combine the two, I decided to steal a new one from my Hobbity friend (who stole it from someone else, she said so herself…LOL).
1.) If you could live in any country but the United States, where would you live?   Tuscany or Ireland, maybe even Greece.  Somewhere with a lot of history.
2.) Why did you title your blog “A Long And Winding Road”?   Because it felt like the most accurate description of the journey of my life right now.  I wanted this blog to be about all aspects of my life; infertility, anxiety and depression, hobbies, knitting, reading, the coming back together of my marriage, my journey back to a close relationship with God, celebrations, successes, failures, hopes and dreams.  I am on a journey, chronicling the long and winding road from where and who I was to where and who I am supposed to be…and all the places and stops in between.
3.) How many “in real life” people know about your blog?   Just a couple.  My best friend, my husband (but he doesn’t read it), and a select few other friends.  Most of my readers are online friends I met through message boards and the ALI community.
4.) Why did you decide to start blogging?   My first attempt at blogging was a knitting blog that didn’t go anywhere.  My second attempt was chronicling weight loss and then morphed into a weight loss/infertility/knitting blog.  I blog for me mainly, as a journal of sorts.  There are times that I concentrate on content to draw in readers, or to “publicize” certain things, but mainly I just blog because I like to write and it gives me an outlet for emotions, ideas, etc.
5.) What kind of clothes do you wear?   I’m usually a jeans/t shirt kind of gal, but occasionally I can be caught dressing up a bit for a night out or church.  I have to wear a uniform similar to a cop without a gun to work, so I try to maintain as much comfort as possible when I’m “off duty”.  Right now I’m in a comfy oversized t shirt and yoga pants.  🙂
6.) What are you having for dinner tonight?   We had date night, so it was Mexican, Casa Gallardo.  🙂
7.) Where do you “blog”?   In our “office” on my laptop at my desk that once belonged to my Great Aunt Helen.  Sometimes I’ll blog from my iPhone via email.  Technology is such an amazing thing!
8.) Do you like to cook?   I love to cook.  I love baking more, but since my husband is diabetic and I have PCOS (prediabetic condition) most of my favorite baked goods are a no-no anymore.
9.) What’s your beverage of choice at night?  I am a good old Southern Sweet tea junkie.  I don’t have it often, but I love it.  Mostly I drink Crystal Light or water.
10.) What would you most like to know about your fellow bloggers who read this?   I’d like to know how they found my blog, and what keeps them coming back.  And what, if anything, they’d like to know more about me.
