Well 90k is a novel-sized publication! I wonder if the question for any creative is, how much of a presence or audience would satisfy the creative beast in us?

I”m so pleased you’ve re collected. My Blog has languished. I’ve been learning more about writing recently and only reblogging for two years while trying to figure out what to do with those ninety thousand words I’ve vomited.

Hi Kathy,

Up until yesterday, I had no idea that you had commented on the post. I had lost both password and linked email. There has been much downwash under the bridge since that post. But I have stopped writing for the moment – with that moment currently being a haitus of four years.

I’m going to try a different direction creatively for a while so I thought it worth re-engaging with this blog. Turns out, my old Macbook remembered my password.

How is your writing life going?

I have been wanting to write a response to your brave and intriguing post since I first read it. And today I have finally gotten around to it.

There are several things that spring to my mind in response:

a) The first is Stephen King’s view in On Writing that all stories pre-exist and that the writer’s job is to excavate them as intact as possible. They can be as small as a sea shell or as big as a dinosaur. I relate to this idea and since reading On Writing, I have allowed myself to freely accept what the universe brings me in terms of ideas, experience etc for my writing.

b) One of my favourite poets is a Canadian called Oriah Mountain Dreamer. She wrote a wonderful poem called the Invitation after feeling empty after a party. That is a feeling I know well and her insightful spirit words along with her poems have been a great comfort to be in my darkest times (of which there have been many). She is very in touch with nature and the wildness of Canada, which is wonderful.

c) There are many things that we do not understand about the Universe. You are blessed to have happiness in your life. Maybe that makes you more aware of sadness. And you may be picking up vibes from someone or somewhere else. Or maybe they are ancient feelings. I believe that we inherit family feelings. I have lots of guilt – which I know (in my heart) is more than my guilt. It is guilt that has been handed down in my cells and through my DNA from my ancestors. And my challenge is to manage and deal with it. So that I can minimise it for future generations. Having children highlighted a lot of family issues for me and I have deliberately taken action to try and change unhealthy patterns…

My writing is a lot about therapy so I follow the flow of my pen – or rather the tap of my fingers on the keyboard… to help me manage my demons.
