Robert Schmuhl, a professor at the University of Notre Dame who has studied American political history, diagnosed that, “Over the past year, the Trump administration has shattered the traditional norms and standards of the presidency. The public’s accumulated discontent with the government’s direction and policies has reached a fever pitch.”
