Prayer life

When you pray, do you talk with God or do you talk at God? Do you only say “hi… its me again” when things aren’t going your way? Do you thank him every day for the Job you have or for your family or your health? To quote Toby Mac “And may your Kingdom be.. what wakes us up… and lays us down.”

The other thing I thought of is how we hear God talk to us.  Does he answer with that small inner voice or with just a feeling?  Have you ever heard God’s voice in a dream? I have…. I will never forget it. I’ve only had two dreams in my lifetime that I know are from God. There’s no mistaking it. Maybe sometime I will post my dreams here.

There are plenty of people that say they hear from God or have a nugget from God (ugh… hate that word nugget now.) First of all, if someone tells you they have a word from God, check to make sure it lines up with God’s Holy word. Second, what does your spirit tell you… no… that’s not right… what does God’s  Holy Spirit tell you?

The abundant life

So what is your definition of an “abundant life” ?   Do you automaticaly think of having money and possessions?  Did Jesus have an abundant life?  Why is worldly possessions always the main goal?  If  a life totally surrendered to God is the best one, what does a totally surrendered life look like?
For me, a totally surrenedered life means actually having God first place in your life.  You don’t pray because you have to pray, you pray because you WANT to pray. You WANT to talk to the almighty father. You WANT to talk to him and LISTEN to him.  You WANT to be a FULLY DEVOTED BELIEVER.

So, when you go to church… what is the one thing you hear about the most?  “Sow a seed…”  or are they talking about living a life fully devoted to having God be first place in your life?  Next time you go to your church… listen carefully…

Money

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear people talk about how money is the answer to all their problems. “We’re gonna win the lotto!  Then we can pay off our debt and really have it made!”  (Yes this is an actual quote I heard from someone.)  Why are we always looking towards what might happen? Why is money always the answer?  I have gotten to the point now that when ever I even hear about money, I instantly shut off. I don’t to hear it.  I’m sick of it.  I know its a necessary thing in our lives. However, too many people have made it their primary focus in everything they do.  Maybe it would be better if (in my head) every time someone said money, I exchanged that word for “lemon cookies”. The world would be a better place if we all just stopped and had a lemon cookie once in a while.

tithing

So I was reading through some comments on Christian groups on facebook and came across one post talking about tithing.  Now, one person says he doesn’t tithe because it’s part of the old law.  I responded with the verse that is in Malachi 3:8-10 that says if you don’t your under a curse.  He says old messianic law doesn’t apply any more so he doesn’t apply.  What do you guys think?

God’s perfect timing

Well, today was my last day at my current job.  I actually quit my job during one of the worst resessions in US history, And it’s all thanks to God!  I’ve been at my job working for a non-profit Christian ministry for over 8 years now fixing computers.  All throughout this year, I felt the push to get ready to move on. It was going to happen soon.  I would pray:  “Ok God, I’m ready. I’m ready for the next step.”  All I felt God saying back to me was. “I Know… trust in me”  In 2008 things looked pretty bleak.  I mean like I felt stuck with no way of geting out.  But, I knew that God was on my side and would never let me down as long as I stayed faithful.   So, I kept persuing my goal:  Finding a new job.  I knew this was a bad time to be looking for a job, but I had to.  Things really seem to be crumbling down around me.   I stayed the course. I kept sending out the resumes and even though I wasn’t hearing anything back, I stayed the course.

Finally, I got a call from someone who looked like a very promising opportunity.  But, after two interviews, somehow things fell through.  Then, right after that, I get a call from someone asking me if I can do a phone interview the next day. They called me!!  This was amazing. I was so nervous.  It was three different people taking turns asking me technical questions.   Well, long story short, after several weeks, I got the job. This has truly been God’s perfect timing.

Now I have closed the door on my current chapter in my career and God has opened the door to an amazing opportunity for a new job that I am starting next Monday.  I give God all the glory for this and wish my friends and family from my last job all the best.

Remember, life is about choices. Choose to follow Christ and make God be first place in your life.
Choose to be the fully devoted believer you were intended to be.

Sharing Faith

This doesn’t come from my own writings. This comes from my pastor. I just wanted to share it with everyone. Enjoy.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

Sharing your faith is one of the greatest values of a fully devoted believer. It truly demonstrates our love of God. In fact, it’s the proof. God never intended for you to spend your whole life on yourself. You’ve been created to impact and influence others. The proclamation of God is that “none should perish but that all would find eternal life”. How do you think that will happen? It happens because we will go and we will tell. We are his ambassadors and we are His representatives. The last great command Jesus gave to Believers was simply, “to go into all the world and share the Good News.”. Doing that illustrates our full devotion to Him. Jesus just didn’t call you to “come to Him” but to “go for Him”. Remember two thirds of God’s name is ‘Go”. So quit making excuses, let’s go! The fields are ripe with harvest.

7 ways to measure your value of “sharing faith”
1. Wise – Why should you win souls for Christ? (Proverbs 11:30)
2. Weakness – Do you let your weakness rule your faith? (2 Cor 12:9)
3. Wrestling – Do you use armor to protect you or to send you? (Eph 6:11-20)
4. Watch – Are you a watchman asleep on the wall? (Ezekiel 33:3-6)
5. Willing – Are you willing to allow others go to hell? (2 Peter 3:9)
6. Works – Who will you present to God as a fruit of sharing faith? (James 2:16-20)
7. Witness – Is your Christian life worth sharing with others? (Acts 1:8)

3 Basic thoughts to become fully devoted believers:

1. You’ll never be believable in the middle of the road.
2. Your life begins and ends with your reaction to God’s instructions
3. If God could have found a replacement for your assignment, He would have never given it to you.

7 values to becoming a fully devoted believer:

1. Loving God
2. Sharing faith
3. Generosity
4. Servanthood
5. Personal Growth
6. Purpose
7. Community

The Parable of the net

I was reading this story to my daughter tonight and it really got me thinking

Matthew 13:47-52 (NIV)

The Parable of the Net

47“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51“Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.
“Yes,” they replied.

52He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

So, you ‘teachers of the law’ , what treasures are you bringing out of your storehouse?

Preeminence of Christ

Preeminence of Christ

9 For this reason we also, since the
day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may
be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing
Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge
of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious
power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to
the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of
the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of
darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in
whom we have redemption through His blood,[c] the forgiveness of sins.
15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are
on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or
principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for
Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18
And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
