Europe is headed for another civil war. They had two in the previous century, the Great War (rebranded later as World War I) and World War II. This one splits the East from the West as the Eastern countries trapped by communism under the Soviet Union do not want to be part of the Western countries foolishly chasing communism and embracing the Muslim invasion.
The Western fools led by German include Denmark and France, two countries that surrendered to Germany in World War II are demanding that Trump respect their authority. They have none. The USA protected Greenland from Hitler and his Nazi horde. Trump wants to defend it again, this time from Russia and Red China.
I will defend the surrenders because the Germans would have annihilated France and the low countries. My protest is that they refused to learn their lesson and build their military, although DeGaulle did build two aircraft carriers.
NATO nations have 18 aircraft carriers. 11 of them belong to the USA
If Europe has a civil war, this time the Confederates are the good guys because like the North, they oppose slavery, this time by a communist bureaucracy in Brussels. Those who control the EU have no incentive to embrace this concept.
The frenemy countries want NATO to stand up to the United States. This is laughable because the USA created NATO after the Eurocide of World War II. NATO was an excuse for America to place troops along the Iron Curtain. The curtain fell but the troops are still there.
Hey, we are not immune to idiocy.
However, Denmark, France and Germany act like they invented idiocy. This weekend’s warrior cosplay by the mousey mites on the ice in Greenland was farcical.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said, “Imagine 15 Italians, 15 French, 15 Germans in Greenland. This seems like the beginning of a joke.”
The punchline was Germany sending its force in on Friday, Trump imposing sanctions on Saturday and the Germans going home on Sunday. Don’t tariff me, bro.
But the situation is serious. National leaders are taking sides.
Check out what Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said, “Trump is a threat to Europe. Well, it is not helping Europe, but helping the United States fulfill its agenda of making America great again. Make America great again. I spoke to him on December 26th. He called me and it really came as a surprise. The Polish President, myself, and Viktor Orbán—his closest allies in Europe—and President Trump criticize Europe.
“First, we saw JD Vance’s speech at the 61st Munich Security Conference, which was very important for Europe, for illegal migrations, for regulations, and for freedom of speech. Viktor Orbán and I would like Europe to be a union of sovereign member states not to create a superstate run by a bureaucrat in Brussels.”
We know the feeling. We voted to fire Otto Penn, the bureaucrat in DC who wanted to run our country. Bureaucrats make bad decisions such as letting in military-age men who do not wish to assimilate.
The American people want illegal aliens deported. Some just want the violent criminals out. Some want to keep those who came as children—even teenage gang members. The rest of us want them all out.
The Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia have refused to take the Muslims in as refugees. Poland gladly accepted Ukrainians because they are Christian and the Slovaks are a willful refuge for Christians. I attribute the pro-Christian—mainly Catholic—stance to the decades of the repression of religion under the Soviets. As Joni Mitchell sang, you don’t know what you miss when its gone.
Then again, you are surprised by the elation you feel when some people and communism are gone from your life.
The British people voted to leave EU a decades ago. Politicians in Parliament dragged their heels and slow-walked the departure. I believe Brexit is a reason the would-be tyrant Keir Starmer is hounding conservatives for mean tweets, demonstrations, speaking out and even waving British flags. Ineffectual as he may seem, Herr Starmer knows how to use his police as shown by his refusal to make Muslims obey the law and to investigate pedophiles and their groomers.
Conservative politicians in France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands also have pushed to leave EU and restore sovereignty.
While Europe bickers, Russia and Red China move in on the Arctic without much notice. EU is good at blindness. They did nothing to stop Putin from tacking Crimea and parts of Georgia on to his empire. Zelensky—whom I dislike—woke them up when Putin invaded Ukraine.
However, by then it was too late. Putin took Donbas before NATO bothered to react. Little Z turned it into a grift instead of seeking peace. The result was billions pouring (with some of it being kicked back) while the death toll mounted over three years.
Trump does not want Greenland to be the next Ukraine. He wants to build more bases on Greenland but he wants something out of the deal. Nothing in this life is free and America ain’t a nothing. The Danes need to compensate us. Trump will set the terms.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Meet the Press, “Greenland is essential to the U.S. national security. President Trump is being strategic. He’s looking beyond this year, he’s looking beyond next year, to what could happen for a battle in the Arctic. We are not going to outsource our national security.”
Bessent chose the right words because this is for national security—not NATO security.
He also said, “if we look for years, for over a century, American presidents have wanted to acquire Greenland. And what we can see is that Greenland is essential to the U.S. national security—we’re building the golden dome, the missile system.
“And look, President Trump is looking—is being strategic. He is looking beyond this year. He`s looking beyond next year to what could happen for a battle in the Arctic. We are not going to outsource our national security. We are not going to outsource our hemispheric security to other countries.
“In Trump 1.0, President Trump told the Europeans, ‘Do not—do not build Nord Stream 2. Do not rely on Russian oil.’ And guess what, Kristen? Guess what is funding Russia`s efforts against Ukraine? European purchases of Russian oil. So, America has to be in control here.”
Yes indeed, he warned the German delegation at the UN. They laughed. Germans paid for that when Putin raised his rates for warmth in the winter.
The EU and NATO seemed doomed because Europeans are divided and not united. Part of me says if this leads to an open civil war that we should walk away.

]]>The post Let’s Explore Trump’s ‘Large Institutional Investors’ Home Ban Idea… appeared first on American Free News Network.
]]>I have for YEARS described DC as the Butcher of America. Our alleged representatives have LONG been carving up the country – and selling it by the pound to the globalist money men and women.
Very few things better quantify and qualify this assessment than what DC has allowed to be done to the US housing market.
The US commercial real estate market is an overvalued catastrophe waiting to happen. So we will let these Mega Investors take their lumps there – along with all the rest of US. (Although I’m sure they’ll end up with a government bailout of some major sort.)
And it is not the commercial real estate market to which on his Truth Social President Donald Trump referred:
“I am immediately taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying more single-family homes, and I will be calling on Congress to codify it.”
I know Congress is perpetually inert on all things good and positive. But I’d like for the President to wait for them to act upon this very good idea. Because I’d like to at least occasionally adhere to the Constitutional order of legislative succession.
There is at least one bill already filed in both the House and Senate: “The End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act.” Let’s begin somewhere around there – and make whatever bill Congress passes as good as it is possible to have them make it.
The housing market has for most Americans been the bedrock of individual and family wealth building. In case you were wondering:
Inflation of the US dollar has constituted about half of the increase in average home value since 1971. The dollar has 7.69 times less purchasing power (87%). But the average home price is up between 12.8 times and 16 times.
So while inflation has been extraordinarily awful? Homes have still been a great grower of value and wealth.
And these Mega Investors have increasingly been pricing individuals and families out of the housing market.
Wall Street Has Spent Billions Buying Homes:
“(H)omeowner associations for years have sought to stop investors from buying and renting out houses in their neighborhoods….
“(I)nvestors that have scooped up hundreds of thousands of houses to rent out (and) are contributing to the dearth of homes for sale and driving up home prices….
“Investors of all sizes spent billions of dollars buying homes during the pandemic. At the 2022 peak, they bought more than one in every four single-family homes sold….”
The Mega Investors, of course, know exactly what they are doing:
“Hedge funds and private equity firms are actively buying homes, especially in high-growth areas and lower-priced markets where rental yields are strongest.
“Their presence has grown steadily over the last decade, with nearly 19% of all U.S. homes sold in Q1 2024 going to investors. In some markets, that number is even higher.
“For many homebuyers, this has created tougher competition, especially when going up against wall street hedge funds with all-cash offers and fast timelines.”
And these all-cash offers – are almost always well above the asking prices. Further boxing out families look to enter the homeowners’ market.
Do I actually expect much in the way of remedy to come from Institutional DC? I do not.
Mega Investors do a lot of their investing – in DC. Buying up lobbyists and “think” tanks to block any blockage of their home market evisceration.
An OpenSecrets search for “hedge funds” in 2023-2024 yields a top ten that combined spent $274,020,092 in DC.
Hedge fund Citadel LLC alone spent $108,549,658. Are they involved in inflating the housing crisis? You bet they are.
Here they are on their own website – bragging about it:
“Citadel LLC, a prominent hedge fund, is actively investing in starter homes, particularly in high-growth areas and lower-priced markets where rental yields are strongest….
“Citadel’s investment strategy includes buying entire neighborhoods intended for rent instead of sale, targeting fast-growing cities such as Atlanta, Charlotte, and Phoenix, where starter homes are in high demand.”
Emphasis ours. Because…come on.
Here’s where it really gets sardonically humorous.
The “think” tanks (let’s call them In the Tanks)? Are happy to say WHATEVER helps the Mega Investors. Even if it directly contradicts what the Mega Investors are themselves saying.
For instance, there’s The American Enterprise Institute. Which in August of 2025 extruded “Institutional Investors in the US Housing Market: Myths and Realities:
“Media reports often accuse Wall Street investors of ‘buying up entire neighborhoods,’ citing that investors account for a quarter to a third of home purchases. However, these accusations conveniently conflate large institutional investors with small and medium-sized ones.”
Ummm…Citadel’s Market Cap is $65 billion. Qualifying under Congress’ aforementioned legislative definition (above $50 billion) as an “institutional investor” to whom the law would apply.
And really: Does it matter to the many tens of thousands of non-homeowners losing their homes to hedge funds – how large the hedge funds are?
It would appear the proposed $50 billion legislative floor – is too high.
Then there’s The American Action Forum. Which in February of 2025 extruded “Primer: Institutional Investors Aren’t Ruining the Housing Market:
“Institutional investors often purchased homes in a ‘high-growth and geographically concentrated area’ to ‘achieve operational efficiency and cost savings through economies of scale.’”
The quotes the “think” tank is citing – are from a May 2024 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report: “Rental Report: Information on Institutional Investment in Single-Family Homes.”
So you have a DC “think” tank – quoting the government. With words that have nothing to do with why Citadel LLC their own selves say they are “buying entire neighborhoods intended for rent instead of sale.”
Then there’s the…interestingly named Independent Institute. Who in June 2025 interestingly extruded “Institutional Investors Aren’t the Villains of America’s Housing Market.”
You get the idea.
The Mega Investors didn’t get to be Mega by being stupid. They’ve long prepared for opposition to their US home market evisceration.
Now that that opposition has finally achieved some level of messaging density (thank you, President Trump)?
I’m sure the Mega Investors will now pull out all the stops.
To make sure said opposition is fully stopped.

]]>The post Leadership Is The Difference appeared first on American Free News Network.
]]>As is my habit on Monday mornings, I’m driving around in my cop car listening to the Verdick with Ted Cruz’s podcast. Today he’s covering current events in Iran and how President Donald Trump is openly supporting the people in the street. He covered the difference between now and the Green Revolution in 2011.
A point I’ve mad countless times with Barrack Obama worshippers over the years. The one Middle Eastern nation he did not try to inflict regime change into was Iran. Hell, he supported the mullahs by immediately relieving sanctions in exchange for…nothing. A later nuclear deal that did not restrict their WMD or ICBM programs and gave them even more economic relief. To top it off, 1.7 billion in cold hard cash. Damn I would like to play poker against him.
In 2009, the Green Movement started in Iran. The people rose up in opposition to the stolen election of 2009. In the vote count, “50 constituencies had returned more votes than there were registered voters, bearing the potential to affect some three million votes in the final tally.” Sounds like they raised the dead like Illinois democrats.
The movement died two years later, for multiple reasons. Chief was lack of support from the west, the US in particular. Use of Special Operations forces to covertly support the effort would have at least weakened the Iranian regime. But the White House regime did not see a weakened or changed Tehran in their interest.
These sound familiar. Multiple red lines in Syria. Allowing our sailors to be kidnapped on the high seas. A retreat from Afghanistan in the greatest foreign policy disaster since Vietnam (Obama was making decisions, not Joe). Let’s say word of the American government was not to be believed. Contrast this to another recent American president.
In the short TV series The Presidents’ Gatekeepers, then White House Deputy Chief of Staff Michael Deaver remembers a cabinet meeting with President Ronald Reagan the morning the air traffic controllers went on strike, in violation of their contract and federal law. Deaver said, “It was like the stock exchange, people yelling from one side of the table to another, exchanging one idea or option to handle this matter. Then I noticed President Reagan was sitting quietly with a legal pad and a pencil, writing something down. After a few minutes, he looked up and addressed the meeting. Everyone shut up and the president read a statement he prepared to give in the Rose Garden on the PATCO strike. After hearing it, no one had anything to add, the president went out and gave an address to the nation that set the tone for his administration.”
This morning at 7 a.m. the union representing those who man America’s air traffic control facilities called a strike…
…Let me make one thing plain. I respect the right of workers in the private sector to strike…But we cannot compare labor-management relations in the private sector with government. Government cannot close down the assembly line. It has to provide without interruption the protective services which are government’s reason for being.
It was in recognition of this that the Congress passed a law forbidding strikes by government employees against the public safety. Let me read the solemn oath taken by each of these employees, a sworn affidavit, when they accepted their jobs: “I am not participating in any strike against the Government of the United States or any agency thereof, and I will not so participate while an employee of the Government of the United States or any agency thereof.”
It is for this reason that I must tell those who fail to report for duty this morning they are in violation of the law, and if they do not report for work within 48 hours, they have forfeited their jobs and will be terminated.
The leadership of PATCO bet against President Reagan. They lost. They thought they were dealing with Jimmy Carter, but Rawhide was made of sterner material. The other people who got an impression were the leaders of our allies and adversaries. Both understood the man in the White House would not buckle.
The Iranians tested that man multiple times, most significantly in April 1988. The USS Samuel Roberts was minded in the Persian Gulf by the Iranians, injuring ten sailors and almost sinking the ship. Four days later the US launched Operation Praying Mantis. By the end of the day, “the U.S. Navy destroyed two Iranian surveillance platforms, sank two of their ships, and severely damaged another.” Tehran never directly challenged us during the Reagan administration again.
Last year the Iranians challenged the world with open pursuit of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles. A “peaceful regional” power wants delivery means that will reach America. Israel and the United States warned Tehran multiple times they would not be allowed to have this technology. They bet against the US and the only democracy in the Middle East. They chose poorly.
In June 2025, President Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched multiple operations over 12 days that decimated Iran’s defenses, particularly its nuclear development program and air defenses. Iran’s skies are practically undefended and ground targets are open to attack.
Reportedly Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has made plans to evacuate to Moscow if his forces are unable to control the rise of the population. He knows he cannot count of the west to capitulate to his demands as he did under Democratic presidents (yes, Obama etc.). Also (speculation on my part), I believe since January 2025 we have used operators to destabilize the mullahs in Tehran (will someone refresh my memory, but I’m sure something happened in January 2025).
Again, it all comes down to leadership. Reagan was a leader. Trump is a leader. Mr. Obama could not lead a group of hungry kids to an ice cream stand, nor does he want to. He wanted to manage the decline of the US in particular, and the west in general. Strengthen our adversaries and weaken us at home. Hopefully this administration (and follow-on Republican presidents) can keep reversing this.

]]>The post The Peaceful Lake appeared first on American Free News Network.
]]>The old preacher sipped his thermos of coffee, holding a fishing rod in the other hand. He asked what I wanted most in this life.
I stared at the lake surface and told him I wanted peace. I was young, I came from a broken home. Peace was all I wanted.
“What does peace look like to you?” the clergyman asked, casting his line.
I shrugged. “Someday,” I said. “I’d like to live on Lake Martin.”
He laughed. “You think this lake is peaceful, do you?”
Then he told me a story.
A hundred years ago, the powers that were gathered around a big boardroom table. Executives in three-piece linen suits, smoking great Havannas as long as your thigh, cheerfully commiserating about how hard it was to find good help these days.
A chairman banged a gavel. In a booming voice he said, “Come to order!”
The men sat straight and paid attention.
Then, the chairman explained that the Alabama Power company would construct a dam. They would flood the Tallapoosa River valley, and use the river to generate power.
“Brilliant idea, old chap!” replied one supporter.
“Dam brilliant, old man!” said another.
Then they all patted each other on the back and went back to talking about their yachts.
The Cherokee Bluffs Dam would be 168 feet high, 2,000 feet long, with three Francis turbines, churning out electricity by the kilowatt hour, transforming the Twenty-Second State forever.
But there was a problem. There were towns in the valley. There was Benson, Irwinton, Kowaliga, Church Hill, and the lovely town of Susannah.
One board member waved his cigar and chuckled. “Don’t worry about the towns, gentlemen! We’ll just buy them out!”
“But these are farmers, sir,” explained another. “Farmers can’t be bought.”
The board members laughed so hard they choked on their smoke. This is America. Everything can be bought.
The process of submerging the valley was not peaceful. It all started one sunny June morning in 1926. The Dixie Construction company built a temporary railroad, laying miles of track, just to move the heavy machines into the valley.
Steam shovels, excavators, and cranes began populating the small town of Susannah, one-by-one, like futuristic visitors from another planet.
The townspeople didn’t HAVE to leave, of course. The Company wasn’t THAT heartless. If you lived in Susannah, for example, you had two options: (a) Sell, or (b) stay put and die.
Within weeks, the company leveled homes, obliterated buildings, decimating the one-room schoolhouse. Susannah’s pretty church steeple caught fire, finally falling sideways into the inferno.
The Company dug up her cemeteries. They relocated 923 graves. They cut and burned all Susannah’s trees. The smoke could be seen from Montgomery.
The flood happened an inch at a time. Water trickled into half-charred homes. The remains of Susannah’s schools, churches, general stores, post office, bank, sawmill, grist mill, and cotton gin, were submerged. An entire community died, along with its covered-dish socials, spring dances, all-day sings.
By 1928, Susannah was lost beneath the largest man-made reservoir—not only in Alabama; not only in the U.S.—but in the world; 40,000 acres of water, with upwards of 700 miles of shoreline, spanning from Eclectic, to Alexander City, to Dadeville.
Susannah’s townspeople became migrants. Refugees were often seen walking highways, carrying possessions. Sometimes, the children were heard singing as they walked. They sang an old song.
“Oh Susanna, don’t you cry for me,
“For I come from Alabama,
“With a banjo on my knee.”
The old preacher gently reeled his line and bore his eyes into me.
“Nothing in life is peaceful, son,” he said. “Not even lakes and rivers. Real peace, you see, comes from one place.”
“Which place is that?” I asked.
He smiled. “You’re asking the wrong fisherman.”

]]>The post The Democrat Party is a Criminal Enterprise, Part I; Its goal is one-party rule as a precursor to robbing US taxpayers in perpetuity appeared first on American Free News Network.
]]>A rare glimpse of the depth and breadth of that corruption, graft, and grifting is playing out now in Minnesota. The amount of taxpayer money stolen with the assistance of the Democrat Farm Labor Party that runs the state is enormous – as much as $9 billion by some estimates. Note: All five of the statewide offices in Minnesota are held by DFL apparatchiks: governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and auditor. That is a recipe for corruption.
This is the first of a multi-part series that examines the premise of the title of this article. In my opinion, the evidence is everywhere and cannot be disputed. The big question is whether we have the political willpower in America to hold the thieves accountable – especially those who infest the Democrat Party (and the lackey RINOs who enable them, too).
Let’s take a look.
DEMOCRAT PARTY CORRUPTION CIRCA 1900 THROUGH 1960
The early and mid-20th century (roughly 1900–1960) saw frequent accusations of corruption leveled against Democrat Party political machines in major US cities and states. These machines, which dominated local politics, were often criticized by reformers, journalists, Republicans, and even some Democrats as corrupt entities intertwined with organized crime, voter fraud, bribery, and graft. Below are key examples that focus on prominent machines like Tammany Hall in New York City, the Pendergast machine in Kansas City, the Kelly-Nash machine in Chicago, and Huey Long’s organization in Louisiana.
These accusations typically came from opinion editors, political opponents, clergy, and investigative reports, portraying the Democrat Party’s local operations as akin to criminal enterprises. Note that while these machines were Democrat-led, it is true that not all Democrats were involved or condoned the corruption (at least in the early years).
Tammany Hall (New York City Democrat Machine, 1900s–1930s). Tammany Hall, the Democrat Party’s political organization in New York City, was a frequent target of corruption allegations in the early 20th century, building on its notorious 19th-century reputation under Boss Tweed. Critics accused it of bribery, election fraud, and controlling city contracts, often likening it to a criminal syndicate.
- In 1909, an article titled “Tammanyizing of a Civilization” in The Atlantic described Tammany’s history as a “long and tangled record of bribery and corruption,” noting that its methods involved systematic graft from aldermen and executives emblematic of urban political vice.
- Historian Gustavus Myers, in his 1917 book History of Tammany Hall (revised editions circulated into the 1930s), compiled extensive evidence of Tammany’s sins, including bribery of immigrants into voting gangs and the Common Council being known as “The Forty Thieves” for embezzlement and graft, portraying it as a corrupt machine that robbed the city of millions.
- Reverend Charles Parkhurst, a reformist clergyman and opinion leader, in his 1892 sermon (widely reprinted and referenced into the early 1900s) denounced the Tammany-backed administration of Mayor Robert A. Van Wyck as “a lying, perjured, rum-soaked, and libidinous lot” of “polluted harpies,” accusing them of fostering corruption and vice. Parkhurst’s critiques continued to influence early 20th-century reform movements against Tammany.
- In the 1930s, during investigations into Mayor Jimmy Walker (a Tammany Democrat), critics like journalist Hodding Carter and others echoed earlier charges, with Tammany often called a “machine for forgetting” ethical governance, tied to organized crime and graft.
Pendergast Machine (Kansas City Democrat Machine, 1920s–1930s). The Democrat machine under Tom Pendergast in Kansas City, Missouri, was accused of voter fraud, ties to organized crime (including gambling and prostitution), and embezzlement during the Prohibition era and Great Depression. Pendergast’s control peaked in the 1930s, leading to federal investigations.
- Syndicated journalist Westbrook Pegler, in a 1938 column, described Pendergast’s rule as “good, rotten government” that ran a “good, rotten city” where citizens tolerated “wide open vice and gambling,” portraying the Democrat machine as a corrupt enterprise profiting from illicit activities.
- US Attorney Maurice Milligan, in his 1948 memoir Missouri Waltz, expressed bafflement at how Kansas City’s cultural achievements coexisted “side by side with a corrupt machine run by a boss like Pendergast,” accusing the Democrat organization of systemic graft, election fraud (including “ghost votes”), and alliances with crime syndicates.
- The FBI, in a 1930s investigation summary (later publicized), noted Pendergast’s “corrupt activities—including voter fraud and bribery,” which made Kansas City an “open city” for gangsters, prostitution, and drugs, effectively labeling the machine a criminal operation.
- Former Congressman Joe Shannon, a political rival, in 1936 called the machine’s election practices “so corrupt, it was a disgrace to American civilization and the Democrat Party,” highlighting fraud and violence at polls.
Kelly-Nash Machine (Chicago Democrat Machine, 1930s–1950s). Chicago’s Democrat machine under mayors like Anton Cermak (1931–1933) and later Edward Kelly and Pat Nash (1930s–1940s) was accused of corruption, ties to organized crime (e.g., Al Capone’s successors), and controlling patronage jobs. This built on the city’s broader reputation for political vice in the early 20th century.
- Historical overviews, such as in Wikipedia’s entry on Chicago’s political history (drawing from mid-20th-century sources), note that “organized crime and political corruption were persistent concerns” under Democrat dominance, with the machine accused of election tampering and graft throughout the 20th century.
- In the 1930s, reformers and journalists like those in the Chicago Tribune (a Republican-leaning paper) frequently accused the Kelly-Nash machine of being a “criminal enterprise” intertwined with vice, with one 1930s report likening it to a “machine for corruption” that protected speakeasies and embezzled public funds.
- Sociologist Harvey Zorbaugh, in his 1929 book The Gold Coast and the Slum, described Chicago’s core as a “vortex” of vice under machine control, with mid-20th-century extensions portraying the Democrat organization as enabling organized crime through corrupt alliances.
Huey Long’s Organization (Louisiana Democrat Machine, 1920s–1930s). Huey Long, a Democrat governor (1928–1932) and senator (1932–1935), built a populist machine accused of authoritarianism, bribery, and corruption. Opponents portrayed it as a dictatorial criminal network.
- During Long’s 1929 impeachment, the Louisiana House charged him with “high crimes and misdemeanors in office, incompetency, corruption, favoritism, oppression in office,” accusing his machine of bribery and suppressing opposition.
- Editor Hodding Carter, in the 1930s Daily Courier, called Long a “demagogue” whose machine fostered corruption, warning that his “Share Our Wealth” program masked graft and vote-buying.
- Senator Edwin Broussard, in a 1932 letter to a Senate committee, accused Long’s machine of corruption, including forcing state employees to contribute to campaigns and promising prisoner releases for votes, portraying it as fraudulent and criminal.
- After Long’s 1935 assassination, the “Louisiana Scandals” under successor Richard Leche (a Long ally) involved kickbacks and mail fraud, with critics like journalists accusing the Democratic machine of systemic theft.
CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
These examples are an introduction to the Democrat criminal enterprise and reflect a pattern where Democratic machines were criticized as criminal-like due to their control over patronage, elections, and vice. The successfully grifting methodologies that were perfected over time were exported to other Democrat-controlled cities with varying degrees of success (from the Democrat point of view), including Boston, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Los Angeles, and of course Minneapolis.
As technology advanced and the federal government grew almost uncontrollably through socialist New Deal and Great Society programs, new ways to rip off the taxpayer were ingeniously tested and perfected. The grift also became part of a vast election fraud scheme that Democrats perfected to steal elections with the goal of perpetuating the theft in perpetuity through one-party political control of the federal, state, and local governments. We’ll look at some of this in the next part of the series.
The end.
