Loved this day and will check the others. We also enjoyed stopping to see the Elk when we drove over to the Coast from central Oregon.
FYI – The Roosevelt Elk are the largest bodied of the Elk sub-species (can get over 1,000 lbs) – with the Rocky Mountain elk being a little smaller in the body (700-900+ lbs for the bigger males) but bigger/wider antler racks. The Tule are the smallest all the way around – probably maxing out at 500? lbs 🙂 ]]>

I love northern California, it’s just so beautiful! I have been to most of those places, Trinidad California being one of my favorites. Thank you for bringing back some very beautiful memories. Your pictures are amazing.

[…] As a shout-out to anna, this is one of the great bird watching options in the Bay area. We saw some egrets, humming birds, geese, sparrows, cormorants, pelicans and gulls. You can find some pics here.https://blog.adampaul.com/2007/10/09/charleston-slough-and-shoreline-park-birding/ […]

Encountered you on this same stretch of highway in July 2013 at Cape Perpetua. Not much has changed since 2007. Cold and windy along the shore again. Definitely for hardy souls. And your comment about the Coos Bay bridge made us laugh. The town reminded us of Ohio River mill towns. Best food these days in Gold Beach, a new unassuming seafood restaurant, Saltwater, on the main drag. Happy trails.

Very nice article. I have spent so much time at Wrights Lake in my lifetime. Did you read the story about George Smith? He built the first cabin there. Now cabin #3. My parents were good friends with May and Lloyd Smith, George Smiths kids. Smith Lake was named after him. Try hiking to Smith Lake next time. It’s a hard climb but well worth it. People I take there are really amazed.

Dear Adam,
we just returned from Prague, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts here. I find your sense of humor quite in keeping with the beauty and oddness that we found in Prague! Did you happen to notice St. Nepomuk’s tongue on the platter held by an angel toward the top of his tomb? Creepy and beautiful at the same time!
