Abstract form whose instances are collections of other objects. Often projects take the shape of things that are not normally classified as "book-like." Rarely, our objects look like traditional books. It depends.

Holdings
Colette LaBouff
Holdings features pieces written during the author’s six-months working as a part-time reference librarian at a public library in Roswell, New Mexico.
Look-Books
Laced with the "are we there yet?" vacation nostalgia of the 1980s and '90s, the Look Book series invites artists to submit work that functions best in the classic view reel format. Each year, we solicit up to six (6) participants to contribute to a year-long subscription series that delivers a new reel to your mailbox every two (2) months.
Look Book, Series 3
Eric Pankey, Njaimeh Njie, Geof Huth, Joshua Rothes, Rémi Forte
The Look Books subscription series places old experiences in a new context, presenting five hybrid literary and visual texts that can be read by inserting them into the viewer and advancing the frame forward.
Objects
Closed-edition large projects. We accept submissions and, on occasion, solicit artists to produce these works through a highly collaborative process, including editorial and conceptual work around submitted text and form(s). We traditionally produce editions of 25 to 30 copies.
In the Crossed World of Animals
Terri Witek
In the crossed world of animals is published as a limited series of six cross-stitch pillow kits featuring phrases the author collected from antiquities museums.
Each kit contains materials to make a 16″x10″ throw pillow (not including the pillow form).
E, UIO, A
Dave Drayton
When the envelopes started arriving, she was quite sure they were love letters. The envelopes, always a tasteful beige with just enough bronze to suggest jewelry or affection.
Produced in a limited edition of 25 copies as a photography keepsake box featuring letters and other epistolary ephemera.
Saw Palmettos
Charles Theonia
Saw Palmettos is a series of short poems about hormones, community, and the brain-time continuum.
Produced in a closed edition of 25 copies as a wooden display stand holding 30 tincture bottles.
Tem
Wided Rihana Khadraoui
Tem is part history, part make-believe. Every culture has creation myths that explains how the world emerged. This story is one of the forgotten deities of the pre-Islamic Bedouin of the Arabian Peninsula.
Tem is produced in a limited edition run of 25 copies as a mineral collection box featuring text and paper gems stored in plaster trays.
Multitudes
Faced with a challenge to make a bookwork from such materials as a rolodex or vintage lunch box, artists engaged in the Multitudes series take-on well-known objects and forms with unique and (un)characteristic approaches. These works transform mundane objects into text-based experiences and engagements that defy, reconfigure, or emerge into what they appear to be.
Multitudes, Series 4
Brooke Schifano, Jessamyn Wolff and Jacqueline Rosenbaum, Christie Towers and Krisela Karaja, Danny Elfanbaum and Julia Lattimer, Andria Warren, Amanda Spencer and Drew Bevis, Nicholas Trefonides and Garrett L. Besonson, Shannon L. Kafka, Katie Moran and Megan Waring
In this series, MFA and MA students from University of Massachusetts Boston’s Fall 2018 special topics course were invited to creatively interpret coin banks into a work of literary or visual art.
About
Container's original run was from 2017 - 2019 under direction of Douglas Luman and Jenni B. Baker. This period of the press took a long rest after Jenni's death in late 2020 due to complications from glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.
In 2023, Container woke up.
