As a non-profit and member-driven association led by an annually elected Board of Directors, we’re proud to support a dynamic network of skilled professionals who are passionate about the vital role we play in the library and information field.
We’re here to:

- Promote awareness of the skills, qualifications, and contributions of library technicians
- Foster meaningful networking opportunities in an inclusive, educational environment
- Collaborate with related organizations to strengthen the profile and impact of our profession
Join us as we build a strong, connected future for library and information technicians in Alberta.
Land Acknowledgement
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we honour and acknowledge the original stewards of these traditional lands and territories. The region that AALT calls home, while now known as the Province of Alberta, is also the traditional and ancestral territory of many Indigenous Peoples who have lived on and cared for these lands since long before colonisation. We recognise the importance of our ongoing relationships with the First Nations of Treaties 6, 7, and 8, and the responsibilities these agreements carry.
Alberta is also part of the historic Métis Nation Homeland, including the five territories of Battle River, Lesser Slave Lake, Lower Athabasca, North Saskatchewan, and Peace River. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government—formerly the Métis Nation of Alberta—which governs the Métis Nation within Alberta’s Districts.
As library and information professionals, it is important that we honour, respect, and cherish the oral traditions, stories, and knowledge shared with our communities by the Indigenous Peoples of this land. We recognise that Indigenous knowledge systems are diverse, living, and dynamic, and we commit to holding space for the voices of those we have lost, and those who speak for them now.
Our industry provides us with the opportunity—and the responsibility—to demonstrate leadership in reconciliation. As an association, AALT is committed to promoting learning, dialogue, and action that advance truth and reconciliation in our field. We strive to:
- Continually educate ourselves and support our members in deepening their understanding of Indigenous histories, knowledge systems, the historic and ongoing impacts of colonialism, and the role of our profession in reconciliation;
- Advocate for inclusive practices that honour Indigenous voices and traditional practices in Alberta’s libraries;
- Uplift Indigenous-led initiatives within the profession and the broader community; and
- Foster spaces for respectful engagement and ongoing learning for all within our communities.
We invite our members and partners to reflect on their roles within these shared responsibilities, and to continue building respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous Peoples in the spirit of truth, justice, and reconciliation. We thank you for your continued enthusiasm and commitment to walk this path with us.
