It’s cold, it’s gray, I have nothing to say.
Today’s Sunday Music is Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Ger., Eng.) composed by Charles MINGUS (1922-1979) (Ger., Eng.) from his 1959 longplayer Mingus Ah Um (Ger., Eng.). Greetings and best wishes to the MITM.

Given my age. my background, my education (early sixties, West-German Kleinbürgertum, humanistic) it is no wonder that I am “not a fan” of the military. But lies are lies. And the PresOfOurHearts of Trumpistan (POOH) just spat on the graves of those people who fought, and died, for the former USA.
I cite the man himself according to what I read in the news, be it BBC or elsewhere. Here it comes from the Hindustan Times (whole article) :
The president stated that he was not sure NATO would support the US if and when requested. “We’ve never needed them, we have never really asked anything of them,” Trump said in a Fox interview in Davos. “You know, they’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan, or this or that, and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.”
Just to strengthen your memory, dear reader : The NATO is a coalition on mutual terms. The basic principle is formulated in article 5 of the treaty : Read this about it. This article was invoked the first, and, to this date, the only time in 2001. Read this about it.
In 2001 the “Bündnisfall”, the casus foederis, happened, and not only we, Germany, but all other allies followed through. The rotten war in Afghanistan would drag on for twenty years, 2001-2021 (Ger., Eng.). A Western coalition stood against the opposing forces, I do not look at the civilian deaths. The coalition lost in total more than 3.600 troops there : Go for the list here. In total 62 troops (including three policemen) of the Bundeswehr died there, 90 French troops, 159 Canadian troops, 457 British troops, and more than 2.400 Americans. These women & men did not die in some bunker holding their balls, they died in ambushes, fights, and all other niceties of war.
BTW, here is a list of those Killed In Action of the Bundeswehr in foreign operations since the early Nineties. Many died on the effing Balcans, thank you Serbia. Scroll down a bit to “Todesfälle Im Einsatz”.
We count all of them :
Dabei spielt es keine Rolle, ob die oder der Gestorbene im Gefecht, durch einen Unfall oder an den Spätfolgen seiner Militärzeit sein Leben ließ. Entscheidend ist, dass der Tod in Zusammenhang mit der Erfüllung der dienstlichen Pflichten steht.
And while we are at it : The Deutsche Bundestag organised an Enquetekommission / commission of inquiry about the whole Afghanistan effort. It came to the conclusion that the whole thing was a fiasco. (Read about this here.)
I am not a friend of the Duke of Sussex, but his work with, and for the wounded must be taken serious, it may be one of the few things this guy himself takes serious.
It IS a sad matter of fact that the so called President of the United States of America, a certain cretin called Trump, shuns not only on the efforts of allied nations, but SPITS on the graves of those, who actually did serve and pay the ultimate price, with their lives, their limbs, and their sanity. This disgusting man is a rotten traitor, nothing else. Shame on him, shame on everyone who supports him – bah !
Never thought when I started this blog, that I’d put an Iron Cross here.
So be it.

Yes, I am an idiot : Own carelessness and disorganisation prevent me from going to Suebia today.
The ways a dispatcher thinks are mysterious, and sometimes barely comprehensible. Nevertheless I will shy away from calling my dispatcher a divine being. Any way, I am without driving duties next week, and by sheer luck the colleague, who will hand me his vehicle, can do so only on Sunday after next Sunday : Yipeeh, I leave this Saturday (today) and return coming Saturday.
No.
Because of drugs. I gathered my stuff this morning, and realised that I am very low on some necessary medications. So I grabbed the phone and called my doctor’s office, only to realise that it is Saturday, when the automated message told me the opening times.
I need a prescription for those pharmaceuticals, today this comes in digital form. But no matter in which form the prescription finally materialises, first of all my insurer’s card must be read in at my family doctor’s office : I know this ! It is a routine, every three months.
I should have done this on the first working day of the new year, but no … Sadly it is technically impossible to kick oneself in the derrière.
Maybe it is not only laziness, perhaps “age” plays a role too ? Some days ago I finally manned up and addressed a technical problem with my mobile phone : I had to change a sim-card, goodness ! In earlier days I would have opened that thing, stuffed in the new card, and that’s it, instructions are for the weak. Now I ponder about this as if it was a major operation.
What next ? Braces and trouser belt ?!
Anyway, Monday morning I will be the first patient to enter my doc’s office, the card will be presented, the list of medications will be dictated, and off I’ll go to sunny Suebia. Thankfully it does not matter at which apothecary I present my card, and get my drugs ; this works in the whole of Germany, in Suebia, even in the East, so I heard. And while I am medically digitised, next thing I have to pay attention to is the electronic “health”-file, where all health & medical attendance related information is gathered. I like the idea, but also want to know what is known about me. Next step will be fully avatarisation.

It surely looks like a spring day, but one should not trust the sunny outlook. The air is still cold, there is a nasty little wind now and then, light frost is always possible through the night. The 14-day forecast says that nightly temperatures will continuously decrease. So be it. Thank GOd for central heating, a marvel when it works.
I snirfl & cough my way through the day, now thankfully without the nasty headache that tortured me for days.
Let’s listen to some soothing music, and who did it better than Roger WEBB (1934-2002) (Eng.) ? He produced a lot of library music for the still active De Wolfe Music (Eng.) production company. From the 1971 lp Moonshade it is track number 2 titled Gentle Eyes. I hope you enjoy the music. Let’s hope for a friendly week.
