The SiBG301 SoC family belongs to our next generation Series 3 platform that further extends our leadership in ultra-low power IoT SoCs and modules. Series 3 brings new levels of compute, security, RF performance, and power efficiency that are necessary to address emerging IoT markets. The SiBG301 is purpose built for line powered smart devices including LED lighting, plugs and switches.
The multi-core device has an ARM Cortex®-M33 running up to 150 MHz for application development and dedicated cores for the radio and security engine. Our Series 3 Secure Vault™ has been certified for PSA Certified Level 4, ensuring the highest level of attack resistance from PSA Certified, protecting both the data and the device. Memory options of up to 4 MB Flash and 512 kB RAM allow for more demanding applications for Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth mesh.
Optimized for LED lighting applications, select SiBG301 devices integrate key features including a PIXELRZ single wire communication interface for LED controller ICs as well as a LED pre-driver that enables low level and consistent dimming, resulting in a simplified design, reduced BOM, and lower product cost.

The EFR32BG29 wireless SoC is a highly efficient, high memory, low-power, and ultra compact SoC designed for secure and high performance wireless networking for IoT devices. It features 1 MB Flash and 256 kB RAM, DCDC Boost to support multiple battery chemistries and allow operation down to 1.2 V, and a Coulomb counter for accurate battery level monitoring. It is also designed for Secure Vault™ High that provides advanced security features, making it ideal for applications and sectors that have rigorous and stringent security and privacy standards. Some applications include battery powered sensors, asset trackers, tooth implants, CGMS, and wearables.

The EFR32BG27 family of wireless SoCs opens up new possibilities by offering an ultra-small WLCSP package (2.3 mm x 2.6 mm) capable of running on button cell batteries. Now device makers can address applications with extremely small form-factor requirements without sacrificing performance and security. The BG27 Bluetooth SoC features an integrated DCDC boost that allows operation down to 0.8 volts, enabling support for single-cell alkaline and 1.5-volt button cell batteries that are typically used in medical applications for battery-operated patches and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices. Additionally, the wakeup pin on the BG27 allows products in a warehouse or transit to remain off for months, consuming less than 20 nA, ensuring the battery remains fully charged for use. The integrated coulomb counter enables accurate battery level monitoring to avoid unexpected battery depletion for critical applications. Target applications include connected medical devices, wearables, sensors, switches, smart locks, and both commercial and LED lighting.

What is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). Designed for data transfer and exchange over short distances, Bluetooth makes use of the unlicensed ISM band at 2.4 GHz. Bluetooth includes a number of capabilities that span point-to-point audio streaming to large scale many-to-many mesh networks for lighting or home automation.

Security and Bluetooth
When considering security in the context of IoT, there are multiple aspects a developer needs to consider. Very few protocols are transmitted without some form of encryption in place. The alliances behind most of the leading standards-based protocols tend to make it mandatory and most proprietary protocols tend to implement protocol security using existing well-tested industry schemes.
In all cases, however, the encryption used by the protocol is only as strong as the security offered by the physical device itself. The easiest device attack is a remote attack on software to inject malware which is why a hardware root of trust secure boot is critical. Many IoT devices are easily acquired in the supply chain and allow “Hands-On”, or “Local” attacks which allows attacking the debug port or using physical attacks like side-channel analysis to recover secrets outside of communication encryption.Silicon Labs offers a portfolio of device-level security options.
Certificate-Based Authentication and Pairing (CBAP)
Certificate-Based Authentication and Pairing (CBAP) allows our customers to connect their Bluetooth LE devices without requiring manual authentication, which streamlines the Bluetooth authentication and pairing process. From asset tracking to lighting to consumer electronics and corporate networks, It eliminates the need to use QR codes, passkeys, or NFC based pairings, and automatically establishes an authenticated connection using private and public keys. Currently, CBAP is supported on Secure Vault-High and Secure Vault-Mid devices.
