Ops Insights
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Ops Insights helps uncover database performance issues. With it, users can plan capacity across Exadata systems, Oracle Databases, and hosts using ML-based analytics.

-
Capacity planning with machine learning
Learn how to analyze resource consumption and forecast Exadata, database, and host capacity with up to 25 months of historic data using sophisticated AutoML-based forecast models.
-
Analyze SQL health across workloads
Discover how Ops Insights is the only solution that provides pattern recognition–based analysis for enterprise workload optimization. Using SQL Insights, you can identify patterns in SQL response time and execution plans using a curated set of long-term, periodically collected SQL statistics.
-
Optimize database performance
Learn how Automated Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM) Spotlight aggregates hourly findings and recommendations over long periods, allowing DBAs and system administrators to assess the systemic impact of ADDM recommendations. Administrators can weigh the total benefits of big changes against the cost and/or risk of implementation and make better performance management decisions.
Why Ops Insights
-
Cloud native experience
A fully managed service that stores up to 25 months of telemetry data across three deployment types to solve capacity planning and database workload performance use cases.
-
Actionable insights through built-in applications
No other solution delivers tailored insights about databases, hosts, and Exadata systems across hybrid deployments. Increase business productivity, maximize application performance, and reduce costs without any manual intervention.
-
Specialized analytic warehouses for advanced users
Advanced users can choose from three purpose-built warehouses—AWR Hub, Enterprise Manager Warehouse, and Exadata Warehouse—that provide native and open source tooling and flexibility.
How Ops Insights works
Ops Insights helps IT leaders and administrators make informed, data-driven decisions about database resources and performance. Using OCI’s Management Agent, private endpoint technology, and Enterprise Manager agents, the service ingests operational telemetry from data sources, including on-premises data centers, cloud environments, and Oracle Enterprise Manager deployments, into a cloud-based data store. This data can be kept for up to 25 months for machine learning–based capacity planning and database performance management use cases through the prebuilt applications provided by the service. The service also offers custom-built widgets and dashboards using the native Data Explorer to quickly visualize and resolve capacity planning and database performance issues. For advanced users, the service provides facilities to create customized data warehouses and easily integrate them with popular third-party tools for deeper analysis.

Ops Insights capabilities
Capacity planning
-
Insights across resources
-
Analyze historical resource demand and predict future demand from changing workloads using up to 25 months of historical data.
- Gain enterprise-wide analysis of resource utilization and capacity planning for database and host instances
- Improve resource utilization by identifying under and over-utilized resources
- Identify systems projected to reach high utilization and deal with spikes in demand that are impossible to plan for ahead of time
- Project future resource growth by using machine learning to identify the total lead time to expand capacity forecast based on long-term historic data
- Track and avoid overspending due to excessive resource usage
-
Aggregation
-
Analyze usage and allocation by treemap view and see growth patterns over time for the entire fleet or individual database and host instances.
- Treemap visualization of entire fleet: Size by usage or allocation, group by database type or utilization level, color by percent change or utilization
- Trend and forecast by group or individual
- See growth patterns over time for the entire fleet as well as each member
- Identify over-utilized resource across the fleet
- Identify under-utilized CPU footprint for reclamation
-
Trending and forecasting
-
Displays several historical time series plots related to CPU allocation and usage for the selected database or group, as well as linear regression, seasonality aware models, and AutoML forecasts and trends from this data.
- Linear regression: The linear regression model assumes a linear relationship across variables to predict the future resource usage.
- Seasonality aware: The seasonal option combines a simple model that detects basic seasonality with dynamic, user-selectable data.
- AutoML forecasting: The AutoML forecasting option selects the best fit from multiple machine learning models trained on fixed data window.
