Send Wiki and Comment Spammers a Message

Netcraft reports that “Search Engine Optimisers” are unable to resist the siren call of spamming.
Digging a little deeper, it turns out that this is part of a little contest between practitioners of that sordid profession. Apparently, the SEO who gets #1 for the phrase “ nigritude ultramarine” on June 7 (and then again on July 7) wins.
We’ve seen this before in comment spam, and now it’s turning up in Wikis. To add insult to the injuries of diluting the power of common tools on the Web (such as search engines) and littering our sites, it’s pretty clear that these folks are professionals — i.e., they’re honing their skills to make money from spamming us.
I think the rest of us should remind these folks that the Web doesn’t belong to them; link nigritude ultramarine to https://spam.abuse.net/ on your blog, Wiki or Web site.
