United States Supplement (Selected States)
United States Supplemental Privacy Notice (Selected States)
This notice is provided as a supplement to the Juniper Networks’ Privacy Notice and its Recruiting Privacy Notice to provide additional information to individuals in certain states in the United States of America as required under certain state laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA”). As used in this notice, the term “personal data” includes the term “personal information” and similar terms, each as defined under applicable law.
This notice includes information for residents of these states, such as how we process your personal data, how to exercise any of the rights you have regarding our processing of your personal data, and how to contact Juniper Networks if you have any questions regarding our processing of your personal data.
Your California Privacy Rights
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, the “CCPA”), California residents have certain rights around Juniper Networks’ collection, use, and sharing of their personal data. Residents of California can learn more about the categories of personal data we collect about you and how we share it with our customers and third parties in Juniper Networks’ Privacy Notice and in this supplemental notice. The words “sell”, “share”, and “shared” have the meanings given to them by the CCPA.
Generally, we process data as a service provider for our customers and channel partners, many of whom are large enterprises who have a direct relationship with individuals using the Juniper Products. This means that, in addition to other exceptions under the CCPA that may apply (including for employees, contractors and business contacts), our processing of data as a service provider does not involve a “sale” of personal data of a consumer. Please note that we do not sell your personal data to any third parties, except to the extent such term includes “sharing” (as defined by the CCPA). Juniper Networks does not have actual knowledge that it “sells” or “shares” personal data of individuals under 16 years of age. Juniper Networks will not discriminate against you if you exercise your rights under the CCPA.
While we do collect some “sensitive personal information” as that term is defined by the CCPA, this is limited to location information collected and processed for the purposes of providing our network management services to our customers, who may prompt you for permission to enable location sharing.
In the last 12 months, Juniper Networks has collected the following categories of personal data:
- Identifiers (such as name, email address, physical address or other contact information);
- Internet/network activity information (such as IP address or other log information, MAC address and device ID information. See our Cookies and Tracking Technologies Notice for additional information.);
- Location data (needed to provide network management for customers and resolve network connectivity issues using the Mist product. Juniper Networks’ customers may prompt end users for permission to enable location sharing in this context. See our Mist Supplement for additional information.);
- Professional/employment information (such as professional title/role and name of employer or other entity with which the individual is associated in a professional capacity);
- Audio, electronic, and visual information associated with recorded teleconferences;
- Log-in credentials associated with Juniper’s online web portals;
- Education information in connection with the Juniper Networks Cloud and Automation Academy;
- Customer records (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e));
- Characteristics of protected classifications under California or Federal law for compliance with applicable laws or regulations. See our Recruiting Privacy Notice for additional information; and
- Inferences drawn from personal information to predict customer preferences, characteristics, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, and abilities.
We “share” personal data with third parties for business purposes. The categories of third parties to whom we disclose your personal data for a business purpose may include:
- Within the Juniper Networks group;
- Our customers; and
- Our partners (including service providers, resellers, OEMs, distributors and other third parties).
In the past 12 months, Juniper Networks has “shared” the following categories of personal data and related information with third parties for business purposes:
- Identifiers and Professional/Employment Information (for example, name, email address, title, and organization);
- Internet/network activity information (for example, IP address, log information, MAC address, and device information. See our Cookies and Tracking Technologies Notice for additional information.); and
- Inferences predicting customer behavior and attitudes.
In addition to the rights described in the Juniper Networks’ Privacy Notice, if you are a resident of California, as of January 1, 2023, you have the right to opt out of the “sharing”/”selling” of your personal data with third parties for the purposes of cross-contextual behavioral advertising, which you can do here. If you are a California resident and have any concerns about how we process your personal data or would like to exercise any of your California privacy rights, including those described below, you can make an online request, contact us by calling 1-888-914-9661, PIN 203149, or write to Juniper Networks, Inc., Attn: Legal-Privacy, 1133 Innovation Way, Sunnyvale, California 94089 USA. Please identify yourself as a California resident and provide sufficient information so we can take appropriate action, such as your name, email address or any additional information required, in accordance with applicable law. If you maintain an account with us, we may require that you submit your request through your account (to the extent permitted by applicable law). Finally, if we are processing your personal data as a service provider for a customer or channel partner, we may ask you to contact our customer or channel partner directly, to the extent permitted under applicable law.
“Shine the Light” Law
Separate from CCPA, California residents may request certain information regarding our disclosure (if any) of personal data to third parties for their direct marketing purposes, pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (the California “Shine the Light” law). To make such a request, please contact us, identify yourself as a California resident and provide sufficient information so we can take appropriate action, such as your name, email address or any additional information required.
Other State Privacy Laws
Depending on where you reside, you may have certain rights around Juniper Networks’ collection, use, and sharing of your personal data. You can learn more about the categories of personal data we collect about you, and how we share it with third parties in Juniper Networks' Privacy Notice.
Under certain state privacy laws, you also have a right to obtain a list of the categories of third parties to whom we have disclosed your personal data.
Generally, we process data as a processor for our customers and channel partners, many of whom are large enterprises who have a direct relationship with individuals using the Juniper Products. This means that, in addition to other exceptions under applicable state privacy laws that may apply (including for employees, contractors and business contacts), our processing of data as a processor does not involve a “sale” of personal data of a consumer. Please note that we do not “sell” your personal data to third parties as that term is defined under applicable state privacy laws.
While we do collect some “sensitive data” as that term is defined by applicable state privacy laws, this is limited to location information collected and processed for the purposes of providing our network management services and with our customers’ prompting of end users for permission to enable location-sharing.
Juniper engages in “targeted advertising”, as that term is defined under applicable state privacy laws. In addition to the rights described below, if you are a resident of certain states, you have the right to opt out of “targeted advertising”, as that term is defined under applicable state privacy laws, which you can do here.
Depending on where you reside, you may have certain rights with regards to your personal data, such as the right to access your personal data, to correct inaccuracies, or to delete the personal data that we hold about you. To learn more about the privacy rights available to you, please refer to the table below.
