Letter from Nancy J. Victory to M. Stuart Lynn
26 November 2002
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information Washington, D.C. 20230
November 26, 2002
Mr. M. Stuart Lynn
President and CEO
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
4676 Admiralty Way
Suite 300
Marina del Rey, CA 90292-6601
Dear Mr. Lynn:
On behalf of the Department of Commerce, I hereby approve the Public
Interest Registry (PIR) as the successor for the .org registry. After
an examination of the technical expertise and financial stability of PIR
and its project partner Afilias, Ltd., the Department has concluded that
PIR is qualified to operate the .org registry.
Consistent with the Department's overarching goal of maintaining the
security and stability of the Internet domain name system, it is important
that you take all steps necessary to ensure a smooth and stable transition
from the current operator of the domain to the successor registry. The
Department will cooperate fully in this effort.
Sincerely,
Nancy J. Victory
