Guidance for Drivers on use of "Dash Cams"
The use of dashboard-mounted CCTV systems (‘dash cams’) has increased in recent years as devices have become more affordable and of higher quality, with the reasons for installation ranging from mitigating personal security concerns to having a means to establish liability in the event of an accident. Dash cams can be outward-only facing and record video of the road ahead, some record a vehicle interior, and some versions record both audio and video. In many cases data protection implications may arise for the user of a dash cam and this guidance is intended to assist users understand any obligations they may have under data protection legislation.
