The NBA is adding AI to its game plan.
Today, the NBA and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a multi-year partnership, with AWS becoming the official cloud and cloud AI partner of the league and its affiliates, including the WNBA, NBA G League, Basketball Africa League, and NBA Take-Two Media.
With the deal, the NBA and AWS will launch NBA Inside the Game powered by AWS. This is an intelligence platform that will turn billions of data points into insights and engagement. AWS will also introduce new features to enhance viewer experiences across the NBA App, NBA.com, and the league’s social channels.
“Partnering with AWS provides us with an opportunity to elevate the live game experience through innovation and offer fans a deeper understanding of the game of basketball for years to come,” Ken DeGennaro, NBA evp and head of media operations and technology, said in a statement. “AWS has a proven track record of delivering unique statistical insights and offering transformative experiences that will resonate with NBA fans around the world.”
Among the highlights of the partnership, the NBA will be able to have AI-driven live stats and analytics during games, with viewers seeing everything from shot difficulty to defensive strategy stats. There’s also a “Gravity” feature that showcases how one player affects their teammates even away from the ball, analyzing things like the level of attention a player receives from the defense.
“This partnership will showcase how cloud and AI can reimagine the game of basketball—from generating new insights to creating experiences that bring fans closer to the game they love,” Francessca Vasquez, vp of professional services and agentic AI at AWS, said.
Beyond the new AI partnership, Amazon recently announced FanDuel as its official odds provider for its NBA and WNBA coverage.
According to Amazon, the deal will enhance the viewing experience, with new bet tracking and Odds View features available for those who opt in. FanDuel will also provide dynamic betting content during coverage, and viewers will be able to see their bets displayed and updated on the screen.
