- Go to your site’s dashboard.
- Depending on where you want to add the image, navigate to a page, post, or template and edit or create a new:
- Page: Navigate to the Pages section of your menu.
- Post: Navigate to the Posts section of your menu.
- Template: Navigate to Appearance → Editor and select the template.
- Click the + block inserter (plus icon) and search for “Image”.
- Or, type /image wherever you see “Type / to choose a block” to use a shortcut.
- Click the image icon to insert the Image block.
- Select one of the following options to pick your image.
- Upload: Select an image from your device to upload to your site. See supported file types.
- Select Image: Select from one of the following options:
- Media Library: Select an image you’ve already uploaded to your site.
- Your phone: Add an image from your phone using the Jetpack mobile app.
- Google Photos.
- Pexels Free Photo Library.
- Openverse Free Images.
- Generate with AI: generate an image using AI by describing what you want.
- Insert from URL: link to an image stored elsewhere.
You can replace an image with a different image from the Media Library or upload a new image. Follow these steps to replace an image:
- Start at your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image.
- Click the image you want to replace.
- In the toolbar that appears when you click the image, click the “Replace” option.

- Choose one of the following options:
- Open Media Library: select an image you already uploaded to your media library.
- Upload: upload a new image from your computer or device.
- Reset: Remove the image, but leave the Image block in place, so you can choose from options like upload, select image, generate with AI, or insert from URL
- Current media URL: copy the URL/address of the existing image, or click the edit icon to replace the URL with a different address.
To add an image directly from your iPhone or Android phone, take the following steps:
- Add an Image block to insert a single image.
- Click the “Select Image” button and then click the “Your Phone” option.
- Scan the QR code in the popup window. You will only need to scan the QR code once.
- If you don’t yet have the Jetpack app installed on your phone, you’ll be prompted to download the app and log in. You must be signed in to the app with the same account you’re using to edit the site.
- Select the image to upload from your phone’s library and tap the “Add” button.
- You can find all the images you uploaded from the app in your Media.
This feature will also work with other image-type blocks, such as Cover, Gallery, Image Compare, Media & Text, Slideshow, Story, and Tiled Gallery.
