Typepad, the veteran blogging platform that has served creators for years, recently announced it will be shutting down permanently on September 30, 2025. According to their official announcement, all user accounts will be terminated on that date. This means you’ll need to export your content before the deadline — or risk losing it forever.
If you’re a Typepad user, time is running out to find a new home for your blog. The good news? We’re here to help make your transition as smooth as possible.
Why WordPress.com is your best choice
We’re built to last. WordPress powers over 40% of the web and has been the backbone of online publishing for two decades. Unlike platforms that come and go, WordPress is committed to supporting creators and keeping the open web thriving for years to come. Plus, content on WordPress.com sites is never deleted. Even if your plan or domain name expires.
Your content stays yours. With WordPress.com, you maintain complete ownership of your content and can export it anytime with our one-click export tool. You have the freedom to move your content anywhere you choose. No platform lock-in, no sudden shutdown announcements, and no “move-it-or-lose-it” ultimatums.
Make it truly yours. WordPress.com offers unmatched customization options with thousands of professional themes, powerful plugins, and deep design features. Our flexible block editor makes it easy to create beautiful layouts, whether you want to recreate your current Typepad design or try something completely new.
Ready to make the move?
Don’t wait until the last minute. Use our dedicated Typepad importer to transfer your content safely and efficiently (free for sites with up to 1GB of media files and storage). For larger storage needs including media and video files, you can purchase a paid hosting plan with 6GB, 13GB, or 50GB of space, with optional add-on upgrades available for even greater capacity. Our detailed support documentation will guide you through every step of the process and help you get your new WordPress.com site up and running on the plan that best fits your needs.
We can’t wait to welcome you to the WordPress community!
I don’t understand… Does this affect my weekly blogs?Does it apply to me at all.?
Thanks for asking! This only affects people who have a blog on Typepad, since that service is shutting down soon. If your blog is already on WordPress.com, nothing will change for you.
I recently heard about Typepad shutting down in September 2025, and it really made me appreciate how important stability and long-term support are when choosing a platform. That’s why I’m glad WordPress.com is here—not just as a replacement for people who need a new home, but as a reliable space for creators who want their work to last.
What stands out to me about WordPress.com is the combination of freedom and security. The fact that content stays safe, exportable, and under the creator’s control is huge. Add in the customization, themes, and flexibility to design a site that actually feels like mine, and it feels like you’ve built a platform that grows with its users instead of limiting them.
It’s encouraging to know there’s a place where creators don’t have to worry about their work disappearing. Instead, they can focus on building, sharing, and experimenting.
So here’s my question for you: What’s the one feature on WordPress.com that most new users don’t expect—but end up loving the most?
Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback — it’s wonderful to hear how much you value stability and creative freedom. A feature many new users are pleasantly surprised by is the built-in global community through the WordPress.com Reader. It makes it easy to discover, follow, and connect with other creators, which can be just as powerful as the publishing tools themselves.
Hello guys
I think I have successfully done this process with the help provided from the site 🙏🏻.
Got a mail conveying the successful import of my files .Hope it is set now according to the new rules of the WordPress site👍🏻
That’s great to hear — congratulations on completing the import! If you need any help getting set up, our support center is a great place to start. You can also contact us if you need any further assistance.
I am one of the Typepad refugees and I want to say THANK YOU to the WordPress crew for helping me through the migration process. My blog export, even though it was just a personal fun blog, was really big and difficult to migrate. I went ahead and subscribed to the business plan (despite not being monetized at all) for the sake of the higher tier of tech support, and I am so glad I did. I needed the help. I think I will appreciate this as well as I learn the UI and get everything configured in coming months. The first priority was migration before the deadline, aesthetics can follow more slowly.
Thank you so much for your help. After 9/30 (TypePadageddon) passes, I would love to read a post about how things played out behind the scenes here at WP—-how many new people showed up and what the technical challenges were.
So glad to hear your migration went smoothly — and that you felt supported through the process. Good idea to move before the deadline and take your time exploring design and settings afterward. Great idea about sharing the behind-the-scenes look!
Well ex Typepad users.
WordPress have a good track record of looking after Writers/Bloggers who’ve had to move from their platforms.
They did it with us, a year into being established, when the Windows Live Spaces writers needed a new platform.
You’ll be in good hands.😇👍
Thank you for sharing this encouragement!
You’re welcome Tess.
As, always…I’m just being honest.😇
Does your Typepad migration service also migrate local assets such as embedded images from Typepad, and integrate them into the WordPress Media Library?
Does it update permalinks to old Typepad posts, and the links to popup windows that show embedded images at a larger size?
Thanks for providing more clarity.
Thanks for your questions!
Yes, the service can migrate local assets from Typepad, as long as the migration is done before Typepad shuts down. It also updates permalinks to old Typepad posts. However, we only download the images from the

tags, not links to popup windows.Hope that helps!
