Site Management

Jetpack’s site management tools allow you to choose which plugins update automatically.

This module is now enabled by default. If you do not see the functionality described below, please visit Control Jetpack’s Modules on One Page to learn how to activate it.

When a plugin update is released, the best practice is to update that plugin right away. What if you have multiple sites using the same plugin? You used to have to login to each site individually and to update the plugin manually from that site’s dashboard. With multiple sites, this process can take quite a while!

You can update plugins, set plugins to automatically update, and activate or deactivate plugins on a per-site basis or in bulk. You can also make a new post to any of your blogs from a single page without having to login and post from each site individually. Also, this new interface was designed and built to provide a great user experience whether you’re on your computer, tablet, or mobile device.

To get started, visit WordPress.com/sites to see your Jetpack site listed in the site picker.

You can see at a glance which of your sites has updates available based upon the yellow update icon as shown. Let’s look into what we can do for your Jetpack sites from this new interface.

Manage your Jetpack sites from WordPress.com

You can update and manage your plugins, see your site’s stats, and even post to your Jetpack site all from one page. Visit your My Sites page (while logged into your WordPress.com user account) to see all of your WordPress.com and Jetpack connected sites.

Plugin Management.

To manage your plugins, choose your site from your list of sites in the site picker. Then, scroll down to the Configure section and select Plugins.

Then, click Manage Plugins in the top right, and you will see a list of all of your installed plugins on your selected Jetpack site.

Under each plugin listed, you will see two toggle options for the plugin: Active and Autoupdates.

Active, when the toggle is blue, means the plugin is activated. If the toggle is gray, the plugin is deactivated.

Autoupdates refers to whether or not the plugin can be autoupdated through the auto-updating features in WordPress. The toggle indicates if this feature is on or off. If the plugin has an update, we’ll take care of doing the updating for you.

For more settings, click on the name of the plugin and a page will open with more details.

Here you will see the name of the plugin and the description of the plugin with links to the plugin author’s website and plugin homepage on the WordPress.org plugin directory.

Viewing your stats.

You can see your new stats interface by selecting the Stats link in your site’s menu options as shown:

You’ll see a bright graph where you can see at a glance your views over the past 10 days. Selecting the Visitors tab will show you the number of unique visitors over that same time period. You can also view the number of likes and comments you’ve received. Additional views include by weeks, by months, and by years.

Scrolling down on your stats page gives you even more information on your most popular posts and pages, referrers, clicks, countries, and more. Changing which site’s stats you are viewing is as easy as clicking the “Switch site” link then selecting your next site.

Posting to your Jetpack site from WordPress.com.

There’s a fantastic editor on WordPress.com that you can use to post to your Jetpack site.

Once you select your blog, you can make a post as normal, adding text, images (including featured images), tags, and categories. You can even save the post as a draft, preview the draft and publish all from this single page!

To get started, simply click the pencil icon in the upper right of your menu bar, select your Jetpack site, and get started!

Troubleshooting information and FAQs.

I can’t install, update, remove, or autoupdate plugins from WordPress.com
In order to manage plugins on your Jetpack-connected site from WordPress.com, your site needs to be configured properly. Your site cannot be under version control, and you must be able to install plugins and update them without entering a FTP username and password.

The following constants also need to be set to false or not defined: DISALLOW_FILE_MODS and AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED. And any plugin that intentionally disables autoupdates must not be active.

Privacy Information

This feature is activated by default, although you need to explicitly set your plugins to automatically update. There is currently no way to deactivate this feature.
