
Event Summary
The number of Internet users globally crossed the 2 billion mark around the beginning of 2011. The Asia Pacific region has led this growth, and has the largest number of Internet users globally. India is also seeing high growth rates and current estimates put the number of Internet users at well over 100 million and expected to be some 20% of the total population by 2015. The launch of 3G mobile services in India is also expected to have a significant impact on these statistics as well India's large, and growing, mobile phone subscriber base.
INET Bangalore explored the state of the Internet in India today, and looked at how Internet growth and how different services (such as social media, e-commerce, Mobile Internet amongst others) have had an impact on India. It also examined some of the security and privacy issues that face us today, and considered what a large and active Internet user base means in terms of business opportunities and overall socio-economic development for both, rural and urban, India.

The conference consisted of keynote presentations, panel discussions and workshops, with plenty of networking opportunities.
