Netscape Releases Navigator 7.0 PR1 with P3P Implementation

Netscape recently announced the preview release of its beta Netscape Navigator 7.0 Web browser was available for free download. The newest version of the browser includes a P3P implementation that allows users to manage cookies and view Web sites' P3P privacy policies. To download the browser, visit Netscape.

W3C Announces P3P as Recommendation

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) announced on April 16 it has issued the Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) 1.0 as a W3C Recommendation, representing cross-industry agreement on an XML-based language for expressing Web site privacy policies. Declaring P3P a W3C Recommendation indicates that it is a stable document, contributes to Web interoperability, and has been reviewed by the W3C Membership, who favor its widespread adoption. P3P was designed by a Working Group composed of privacy advocates, Web technology leaders, data protection commissioners, and global ecommerce companies. IBM Releases New P3P Tool

IBM has released a free program, called Tivoli, that allows Web sites to manage their privacy practices, including providing tools to automate Web site human-readable privacy policies, enabling them to become P3P compliant. For more information, visit the Tivoli Web site.

Virginia State Legislature Passes P3P Resolution

The Virginia state House and Senate passed resolution H.J. 172, which calls on state, local, and campaign Web sites, including the Virginia Information Providers Network (VIPNet) to adopt P3P. The measure also asks VIPNet to work with its parent company to get other state and local governments to become P3P compliant.The resolution also asks Virginia's governor to encourage state executive agencies to implement P3P. Zero-Knowledge Systems Releases Free Beta P3P Analyzer

Zero-Knowledge Systems has released a beta of its Web-based P3P evaluation tool that enables Web sites analyze whether their Web sites comply with P3P and how they function with Microsoft's P3P implementation in Internet Explorer 6.0. Visit Zero-Knowledge for more information.
