The Internet community has lost one of our true innovators and pioneers. Ray Tomlinson, best known as the inventor of sending email over a computer network and choosing the @ sign, passed away this weekend. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Ray was an incredible contributor to the Internet and was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2012 for his many achievements.

Today, on International Women’s Day, I want to acknowledge the many contributions made by women to the development and growth of the Internet. I am also asking others to join me in the Internet Society’s effort to “Shine the Light” on women who use the Internet to innovate and make a difference --in their families, in their communities and for themselves. Women around the world have made tremendous advances socially, economically and politically, but progress towards gender parity will be stunted if we do not increase the number of women who have access to the one technology that has...Date published 08 March 2016

Happy New Year to all!2015 was a big year for the Internet Society. The graphic we published earlier this week provides only a glimpse of the hours, effort and impact of our collective work. ISOC has worked tirelessly to strengthen its community and organize itself through the power and reach of the Internet. We have advanced Internet technology around the world while upholding the principles we cherish; and we have advocated--and won--at least for an Internet minute-- the argument that a multistakeholder, distributed model of Internet governance is the right means of achieving the global and...Date published 05 January 2016

I am pleased that the Internet Society 2016 Action Plan has been approved by our Board of Trustees at a meeting last weekend in Yokohama. The 2016 Plan is the result of discussions by the staff and the Board with ongoing input from our Chapters and Members. After engaging, through Community Forums, InterCommunity, regular Advisory and Community meetings and on our ongoing digital channels and listening to the voices of ISOC, we present, here, what we believe are the most urgent priorities facing the Internet today. As you read through the plan, you will see that we believe we must focus on...Date published 05 November 2015

When I joined the Internet Society Board of Trustees in 2010, it was clear that the Internet was facing growing challenges and that the Internet Society had an important role to play. The Internet can, and does, bring tremendous opportunity to people around the world and ISOC is playing a bigger and bigger role in ensuring we have the right policy settings, the right technology framework, and the tools on the ground for people to be confident in building their destiny. I have personally found it tremendously satisfying, whilst also challenging, to serve on the Board and to support the work of...Date published 30 October 2015
