Dear Premier Wynne:

We are writing today to tell more about our class action lawsuit to seek justice and compensation for the abuse we endured while we were institutionalized at the Huronia Regional Centre in Orillia.

You may remember meeting with us last year at the Truth and Reconciliation gathering in Toronto. You really seemed to care about what happened to us. You seemed really interested and you seemed to believe us.

Where is Disability Accessibility in the Ontario Government’s Planned Legacy for the Expensive 2015 Toronto Pan/ParaPan American Games?

Shockingly, not a Word about It from the Ontario Cabinet Minister Responsible at the Government’s August 28 2013 News Conference to Unveil the Games’ Planned Legacy

August 30, 2013

SUMMARY

The Ontario Government held a carefully-planned hour-long news conference on August 28, 2013 to unveil its planned legacy for Ontario for the 2015 Toronto Pan/ParaPan American Games. Below we set out the speaking notes of the Ontario cabinet minister responsible for these Games, Michael Chan, and the related news release.

Pan/Parapan American Games Sends AODA Alliance Chair an Inaccessible Invitation to Kickoff for Countdown to Toronto 2015 Games – What Example for Digital Accessibility is Ontario Showcasing for the World?

August 27, 2013

SUMMARY

We can’t make this up! Last week the Government-subsidized Toronto 2015 Pan Parapan American Games sent AODA Alliance Chair David Lepofsky, who is blind, an inaccessible (and hence, unreadable) email invitation to an upcoming “good news” kick-off of the lead-up to the Games. Lepofsky gets and answers dozens, and at times, hundreds of emails each day and was shocked when this inaccessible one arrived.

Pan/Parapan Am Games Sends Blind Lawyer Inaccessible Invitation

By: Tim Alamenciak News reporter, Published on Mon Aug 26 2013

Disability advocate David Lepofsky says an email incompatible with screen-reading software underlines how Ontario is lagging on accessibility.

The Pan Am/Parapan Am Games organizers invited accessibility advocate David Lepofsky to a press conference. But the blind lawyer couldn’t read the email they sent – he uses software that reads text and their invitation was in an inaccessible image not compatible with his software.

Last week, in the Top Ten Reasons Why AODA Has NOT Been Implemented, we dramatically revealed the, well, those reasons.

That top ten list was a nostalgic view of the past.  But what about the future?  Inquiring minds have demanded to know the top ten reasons why AODA will NEVER be fully implemented, and
here they are (the reasons not the minds):

10.         The Government is progressive-impaired.

Top Ten List Why AODA Has Not Been Implemented

We are entering the fourth month (or is it the fifth? when you get into months, does it matter?) of a failure by the Ontario Government to fully implement
AODA, including the appointment of a new Independent Review.  Such a long delay on such an epic scale has many causes.

Most people do not know all those reasons.  The number one public reason, which everyone knows and understands, is “The Government does not want to spend
the money.”

Why AODA Was Created: The Truth!!

By Victor Schwartzman
August 4, 2013
It was a dark and stormy Knight who created AODA.

Specifically, it was Sir Dalton Rae Davis, a largely unknown knight who spends too much time in tanning beds and has anger management problems. His importance is that for Liberal, Conservative and NDP Governments he specializes in “handling” community pressure groups.
