Just wanted folks to be aware that there is a new printing of the second edition of the book as of November 2010. All errata submitted up until end of October was addressed. If you have a digital version that you bought from OReilly, I believe you should be able to download an update.

The downloads for the 2nd Edition of Programming Entity Framework can be found at https://learnentityframework.com/learnentit.../downloads/#2ed.
The two sample databases are at the beginning of the downloads section and those are then followed by downloads for the various chapters in the book. (IMG:https://learnentityframework.com/images/dbdownload.png)

There was a major snafu in chapter 14 just before it went to the printer because I decided to add a new section (which included two images) into the early part of the chapter.
Figures 14-8 through 14-24 are displaying the images of 14-6 through 14-22. (i.e. figure 14-8 shows the image from figure 14-6, Figure 14-15 shows the image that should be in Figure 14-13). I've written a blog post showing the correct image/caption/figure # combinations. Corrected Figure Captions and Numbers for Chapter 14 I will be sure that O'Reilly gets this fixed up at the earliest possible time for the ebook and prior to the next printing. Sorry for the confusion. (IMG:https://forums.oreilly.com/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Julie

I've had a few people email me directly about this problem which is also the topic of two threads.
Note that when you build the TPT inheritance between Contact and Customer in Chapter 12, the associations between Customer and other entities will break. This is noted in the book. The book wll walk you through rebuilding the associations but pay attention to the warning note on p. 312 about a bug in the model that makes rebuilding the associations tricky. The note describes the workaround in the designer. You can also apply the workaround more simply by editing the XML directly. Please see this post in another thread on this topic for the XML workaround: https://forums.oreilly.com/index.php?showto...ost&p=10907 The good news is that the problem goes away in EF4 (VS2010/.NET 4.0). I've been responding to a lot of direct emails from readers (which I truly enjoy, so keep them coming) but thought that forums would be useful as well to allow others to benefit from these conversations.
If you need help finding where something is in the book, have questions about the code or suggestions, let 'em rip. Don't forget about submitting errata as well (not in the forums but on the main page of the book's OReilly page) because those will get fixed up in future printings of the book. If you have general Entity Framework questions, the MSDN Forums for Entity Framework are an excellent resource. Julie |
