I like that you can
ls Formula
and see what can be installed. So that's a disadvantage of the suggestion. Another would be not being easily able to get a list of all blacklisted formula. I can't see any advantages to the suggested approach.
Incidentally the way we should handle this in general is like we handle it for
brew install hg
We should remove ack, but it's too late.
Also CPAN is a pile of arse. Pip and Gem work great, and don't require you to learn anything.
