"Five Stars All The Way!" - by Clive Nelson III on 13-MAR-2011
Reviewer Rating:
I’ve recommended this book, Active Directory, Forth Edition, to just about all of my friends and colleagues in the Information Technology/Information Security fields because it’s that good! In fact, I believe this book is a must-have for anyone charged with designing, implementing, and/or securing Active Directory.
The authors do a fantastic job in presenting a very comprehensive view of Active Directory from the ground up. Part one of this book treats you to the basics, or the ‘what’ and ‘why,’ of Active Directory. There are full chapters on naming contexts, the schema, site topology and replication, DNS and how it integrates with Active Directory, Read-only Domain Controllers (new to AD 2008), group policies, and a wealth of foundational topics like FSMO roles, domains, trees, and forests, functional levels, etc.
Moving on to part two (or section two) of the book, you'll get into the "how-tos" of Active Directory, covering various design topics including but not limited to name space, site topology and replication, disaster recovery and maintenance, group policy, and permissions and auditing. And part three brings it all home with over 10 chapters related to automation, scripting, extending the schema, and MS Exchange.
There's no "fluff" in this book; it's packed with a tremendous amount of useful content, diagrams, and pictures, and the writing is very easy to follow. Five stars all the way!
