Small Grants Programs
Our support of Small Grants Programs in Asia (Pan Asia program) and Latin
America (Frida program) has helped fund local and regional initiatives
that provide innovative networking solutions to specific development issues.
ISOC's support has put it on equal partnership status with all other partners
of the programs and ISOC-nominated experts sit on the committees that
select projects for funding.
For the Pan Asia program there are two types of grant available. Each
small grant can receive up to US$9,000, while each project grant is given
up to a maximum budget of US$30,000. Seven grants were awarded in 2004
to projects in Vietnam, India, Cambodia and Nepal. The projects cover
areas ranging from Telemedicine to environmental protection.
The Frida program, which is administered by LACNIC with ISOC as a major
sponsor has awarded around 12 grants to projects in Venezuela, Ecuador,
Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil and Costa Rica.
Examples of projects include supporting the development of wireless community
networks, the implementation of GRID tools for the integration and administration
of network services and security management in Latin American networks.
