We’re thrilled to be hosting the first ever Ignite WordCamp at the inaugural WordCamp Boston on January 23rd, 2010. WordCamps are community-organized events around the world where users and developers of WordPress gather to share their love and knowledge of the popular blogging and CMS platform. The Ignite WordCamp will be a feature slot at the end of the day and will be presented in front of the entire 400 people crowd of WordCampers!
A call for speakers is now live and we’ll be taking proposals through January 5th. Any WordPress-related talk is welcome. We await your proposals! :)

Hi guys,
I'm Red, a communications and design consultant from Manila. I'm excited about bringing Ignite to all the geeks here in the Philippines -- and there are a lot.
It'll be held during GIW on March 4. I still have to take care of the venue, but I already have some prospects, so it shouldn't be a problem.
I already have some geeks lined up to present -- a Go (the board game) geek, an astronomy geek, and a trivia geek -- as well as some who can be considered geeks based on their passion for their advocacies -- AIDS awareness, reproductive health, national pride.
If you'd like to support the event by presenting or sponsoring, please send an email to redtani at gmail dot com .
For updates, please follow us on twitter @IgniteManila and stay tuned to this blog for more details soon.
And congratulations to all involved with Ignite! I look forward to helping this community grow through our own Ignite events next year.
On January 9th, we will be holding the first Ignite CLS West in San Francisco. CLS West is short for West Coast Community Leadership Summit. Building upon the momentum of the first International Community Leadership Summit held this past summer, CLS West is the first annual regional community leadership summit for the San Francisco Bay Area.
In conjunction with the CLS West Unconference, this community-themed Ignite is being held on the very same day in the evening. This will be a private event for CLS West attendees and their invited guests. If you are a community leader in the bay area, you should consider signing up for both events.
If you just like the idea of a community theme Ignite, you should find someone you know in community leadership that is attending the Unconference on this attendee list and ask them to invite you as their guest to the Ignite. The local community leaders giving Ignite Talks on January 9th are:
- Ann Winblad: SDForum
- Carlos Hernandez: Social Media for the Uncomfortable
- Dave Nielsen: CloudCamp
- Grant Bowman: Ubuntu California
- Kaliya Hamlin: Internet Identity Workshop, She's Geeky
- Kami Griffiths: Community Technology Network, TechSoup
- Karsten Wade: Red Hat Community
- Leslie Hawthorn: Google Summer of Code
- Mary Vincent: Green Software Unconference
- Nancy Frishberg: BayCHI
- Peter Kellner: Silicon Valley Code Camp
- Robert Stephenson: The Program for the Future Conference
- Sudha Jamthe: Twitter Meetup, Facebook Meetup, Social Media Strategist at PayPal
- Tammy Baker: Dare 2B Digital Conference
- Vincent Lauria: Silicon Valley New Tech Meetup
All of our speakers except for Ann Winblad and Robert Stephenson can be followed from this Ignite CLS West Speakers twitter list. They are also listed in the CLS West People Photo Gallery on our wiki. Check it out!

Sion chickens caused a social meltdown in Second Life. The digital birds were bred for their color and numbered almost one-hundred thousand causing server slowdowns and attracting griefers.
Patrick Davison heard about the controversy and shares his findings. Patrick is a digital artist living in Brooklyn. The talk was filmed at Ignite NYC.

Does it always make sense to get a new car? Cash For Clunkers was a great program for offsetting the cost of that new Prius. However, the math is not always that simple. Bill Moore walks through the total cost of a new car.

Tuesday's Ignite Bay Area | Women Innovators talks are to include everything from SF Weekly's Alexia Tsotsis' "Why hussle is more important than talent" and Neighborgoods' Micki Krimmel "All I Really Need to Know (About Love) I Learned Playing Roller Derby" (with coffee talk and digital book publishing observations in between). If you would like to see these and other talks by women in technology, entrepreneurship and media, production network Business Boomer will be hosting a Livesteam channel starting at 7 PM PST thanks to O'Reilly Conferences' sponsorship.
These talks are being brought to the stage thanks of the support of Intel, TechWeb, Automattic, and Microsoft BizSpark. We're also looking forward to having Rickshaw Bags, 9 Catering, TCHO Chocolates, and Venus Restaurant take part in tomorrow's event.

Hilary Mason, a data researcher for Bit.ly, gave a great, geeky talk on how she has automated her email correspondence; all she used was a very small shell script.
As she explains on her blog:
The title of my talk is a classic geek reference (you can get the t-shirt). I’m very interested in developing automated techniques for handling the massive and growing amounts of information that we all have to deal with. I started with e-mail and twitter, both of which are easy to access programmatically (via IMAP and the Twitter API).
In the talk, I went through several of the simple and successful e-mail management scripts that I’ve developed.
I decided to talk about this project because I’m not sure where this should go next, but I got some great feedback and I’m looking forward to future work on the project!

The Bay Area is buzzing about Ignite, and we're as excited as anyone for the Tuesday's sold out event in Berkeley. Our speakers are incredible, our venue is eco-amazing, and our list of attendees promises a room full of exceptional people. We're also thrilled to announce an all-star line up of amazing companies and organizations that are helping to make the first Ignite Bay Area possible - without whom we'd be totally bolloxed.
Huge appreciation goes out to:
We also owe heartfelt high fives to our fantastic media sponsors Divine Caroline, Women 2.0 and Social Media Club, and to the provider of our organic, sustainable snacks, Berkeley's Venus Restaurant. Special thanks also go out to Ritual Coffee for keeping our guests caffeinated, and to Scott Berkun for keeping them well read*.
And last but not least, we'd like to dedicate some heavy groveling to our guests, who are not only helping to support Ignite and the amazingly innovative women of the Bay Area with their attendance, but are also keeping less fortunate feet toasty by supporting our charity partner, Hannah's Socks. Thank you, everyone - we can't wait to see you!
*We have a few free copies of Scott's popular new book, Confessions of a Public Speaker, to share. Cross your fingers!
