In general, "Mainstream Media" or "MSM" is a catch-all phrase representing established media organizations. It includes newspapers, magazines, and broadcast outlets. The abbreviation "MSM" is sometimes used in a derogatory manner to suggest antiquated newsgathering and information techniques.
