Why do I need an ActiveState account?
Your ActiveState account provides a convenient location for accessing all information on your ActiveState store activity. Your account enables you to easily:
- Download trial and purchased software and licenses.
- View your product order history.
- Manage your billing and shipping information.
- Assign product licenses and subscriptions.
- View completed orders and finalize orders in progress.
Note that ActiveState does not store credit card information in your account.

What happens to the information I give you?
Your information is protected under the terms of our privacy policy. Note that ActiveState does not store your credit card information. During a transaction, that information is encrypted for delivery to the credit card processing company but is not retained in ActiveState's database.

What do I do if I forget my account password?
Enter your email address here and click "Reset my password". A new password will be generated and sent to the email address you provide.

What if my ActiveState account doesn't list all of my products?
If your previously purchased ActiveState software that doesn't appear in your online ActiveState account under "My Downloads", this means that it was
purchased on your behalf, or you used a different email address at the time of purchase.
If you still cannot find your license(s), please contact customer service.

How do I purchase software from the ActiveState store?
To purchase any of ActiveState's development tools or bundles:
- Go to the ActiveState Store.
- Select the product you would like to buy and click "Order"
- Select the license you wish to purchase from the product detail page.
- Complete the online purchase process.
- After purchasing, simply install your new license, available in My Account > Downloads. There is no need to re-install the software.

What are all of my purchasing options?

You may purchase online using a credit card, call us to place an order, or fax/email your corporate purchase order.
If you wish to order by purchase order, please fax or email your order.
We no longer accept credit terms for orders under $750. Pre-payment via credit card, check or wire transfer is now required. Credit/Net Terms are only available for orders over $750 (subject to credit approval).

To fax a purchase order or credit card information, proceed through the online buying process. When you reach the Payment Information page, select the Purchase Order or Credit Card Authorization form. Print and complete the form, email or fax it to us (as above).

How do I purchase software from someone else?
To purchase software for someone else:
- Go to the ActiveState Store.
- Select the software you would like to purchase and click "Order".
- Select the license you wish to purchase from the product detail page.
- Follow the online purchase process.
- After purchasing, go to My Account > License Management.
- Locate the license you want to transfer and click "Re-assign".
- Enter the name and email address of the new user and click "Submit".
- Software and license download instructions will be emailed to the address you provide.

Can I order backup media for my software download?

Yes. The ActiveDVD includes all ActiveState development tools and language distributions. To order, add the ActiveDVD to your online shopping cart.

What are the requirements for a purchase order?
We do not offer credit terms for orders less than $750 USD. Please order online or see other payment options below.
To submit a corporate purchase order for a minimum $750 purchase:

- Your organization may be asked to fill out a credit application to qualify for Net Terms > $750 USD.
All orders must include:
- Name & email address of the purchaser & end user.
Renewals & Upgrades
- The serial numbers of the licenses you wish to renew/upgrade must be included on your order or it will not be processed.For assistance with finding your serial number, please contact customer service.
Volume Discounts

Does ActiveState offer volume discounts?
Yes. The following discounts are available through the ActiveState store.
- 10-19 licenses: 5% discount
- 20-29 licenses: 10% discount
- 30 or more licenses: please let us know how many licenses you need, and contact us for a custom quote or flexible license options.

Ready to make the switch? Customers who have invested time and money in competing development tools or software bundles can save money and ensure a smooth transition to ActiveState's solutions with the ActiveState Competitive Discount Program.
Under the terms of this program, individuals or organizations who wish to upgrade their current solutions can purchase the equivalent ActiveState development tool or software bundle, and receive a cash rebate on all fully-paid orders, within 30 days or purchase.

Which ActiveState software requires purchasing a license?
ActiveState offers two types of software:
- Language distributions
- ActivePerl
- ActivePython
- ActiveTcl
- Development tools
- Komodo IDE
- Komodo Edit
- Perl Dev Kit
- Tcl Dev Kit
- ActivePerl Pro Studio
- ActiveTcl Pro Studio
All language distributions and Komodo Edit are available for free download, or on DVD. They do not require a license for internal or personal commercial or non-commercial use.
- OEM redistribution licensing is available for external commercial and non-commercial distribution.
- Enterprise Edition licensing is available for organizations that require guaranteed support and stability for their language installations.
All development tools except for Komodo Edit require you to register for and install a license to activate the software. 21-day trial licenses are available for all products.

Where can I find the License Agreement for my software?
A copy of the license agreement is installed with the software in the installation directory and/or the User Guide. License agreements are also available online at:

How do I install my license?
-
To install your license, download and run the file.
On Windows, double-click the file in Windows Explorer.
On Unix platforms, you must first make the file executable.
On Mac OS X, unzip the zip file and double-click the 'ActiveState License Installer'.

I installed my license but my software can't find a valid license.
-
Sometimes a purchased license will not successfully overwrite previous trial licenses. When this happens, the license installer will appear to install successfully, but the software will complain that it cannot find a valid license.
If you have only one ActiveState product installed on your system (excepting language distributions), you can manually delete the license file and re-run the installer. The license file has an ".lic" extension, and is located in "\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ActiveState".
If you are running Windows NT, check the license location. If it is installed at "\winnt\profiles\USER\ApplicationData\ActiveState.lic", delete the license and install to "\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ActiveState".
If you have multiple ActiveState products installed on your system, do not delete the license file unless you are prepared to re-run the license installer for all ActiveState products. If you need further assistance, please contact technical support.

What is the difference between an update and an upgrade?
-
Updates are minor releases that include bug fixes and small enhancements. These releases are indicated by a "small" version number change. For example, Komodo IDE 4.0 to Komodo IDE 4.x is an update.
Upgrades are major releases that include significant new functionality. These releases are indicated by a "large" version number change. For example, Perl Dev Kit 6.x to Perl Dev Kit 7.0 is an upgrade.

Does my current license include upgrades and updates?
Updates and upgrades are included with ActivePerl Pro Studio and ActiveTcl Pro Studio subscriptions. Updates are included with all other licensed software however, upgrades are sold separately.

Do I need to purchase separate licenses for each platform?
No. A single license covers you across all supported platforms.

How do I transfer a license to someone else?
-
Licenses are assigned to individuals for their personal use only, on any system they operate. Use of the software by another individual requires the purchase of an additional license.
If you wish to permanently transfer ownership of the license, you must then discontinue any and all use of the original license. To permanently transfer a license:
- Sign in to your account. If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions on the page.
- Go to My Account > License Management.
- Locate the license you want to transfer and click "Re-assign"
- Enter the name and email address of the new user and click "Submit".
- Software and license download instructions will be emailed to the address you provide.

How can I view the serial number(s) for my purchased software?

To view the serial numbers for your purchased software:
- Sign in to your account. If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions on the page.
- Go to My Account > Downloads.
- Your serial number is the 10-character alphanumeric string starting with "S" or "F" under Licenses, e.g. S1234F5678.

Can I try ActiveState software before purchasing?

Yes. All ActiveState development tools are available as free, fully-functional trial versions. Your trial license is valid for 21 days. To request your free trial:
- Go to the ActiveState Store.
- Select the product you would like to try and click "Order"
- Select "Free Trial" from the product detail page.
- Follow the online trial registration process.

How do I know when my Pro Studio subscription is up for renewal?

The original purchaser and the assigned end user of the license is notified by email about an upcoming renewal. Renewal notifications are emailed two months prior, one month prior and one day after license expiration to both the purchaser and the end user contacts (if both are listed). If you do not receive these notifications:
- Sign in to your account. If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions on the page.
- Go to My Account > License Management.
- There you will find the expiry date of your license.
- To renew, click on (renew) beside the serial number you wish to renew.
- If you cannot find or renew your license, please contact us for assistance.

What is ActiveState's return policy?

ActiveState offers free, 21-day trial versions of all development tools. Therefore we do not accept returns on products purchased online from the ActiveState Store, or purchased through an ActiveState Authorized Reseller.
