Financial Information2005 Programs and BudgetsISOC Budget 2005 (PDF: 26KB) ISOC is pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees recently approved the budget for 2005. Support for ISOC's education and policy initiatives has been given a significant boost, in large part due to contributions from the Public Interest Registry (PIR). PIR is the entity formed by ISOC to manage the .ORG top level domain. As well as continued support for network training in Africa, Asia and Latin America (through the long-established AfNOG, SANOG and WALC workshops), ISOC will increase its focus on activities aimed at providing policy makers with the information and understanding they need in order to make decisions that help maintain the Internet's evolution and stability. This is particularly important in view of many of the potentially high impact activities such as those of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) or the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG). ISOC aims to increase awareness of the main issues concerning the future of the Internet through active participation in a number of major public forums as well as by enhancing its current communications vehicles such as policy and member briefings. In addition, ISOC will support a number of significant new policy initiatives in 2005 aimed at increasing our participation in policy matters globally. In the area of Internet standards, ISOC continues its support for the Internet Engineering Task Force and its open standards development processes. The IETF administrative restructuring process made much progress in 2004 and in response to a request from the IETF, ISOC stands ready to provide additional support throughout 2005. ISOC will also provide funding for a number of development activities in Africa (AfNOG, AfriNIC and some Internationalization activities) as well as in Asia and Latin America (through support of regional Small Grants Programs aimed at encouraging innovative networking solutions to specific development issues). As part of our continuing goal to increase involvement of ISOC members and Chapters we intend to make available discrete funding for Member and Chapter projects that support ISOC's mission and purposes. This is a new program, the details of which are now being worked out for funding rounds in late spring and fall. In addition, we will be releasing the membership system in the first quarter. We are also working on improvements to the ISOC Workshop Resource Center which currently consists of an extensive repository of training materials that can be used by Chapters and members worldwide in support of their local educational activities. Funding for many of ISOC's programs and activities is provided by ISOC's organization members. Their generosity is helping to extend the stability and reach of the Internet to the benefit of people around the world. ISOC will continue fundraising activities aimed at attracting new organization members and program sponsors to help support this critical work while at the same time developing new products and services of value to all members. We look forward to a successful year and extend a sincere thank you to all those who contribute to ISOC and help to make our efforts a success. |
