By the end of the night on March 2, 2009, new “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon had scored big, attracting 2.9 million viewers — a full million more than his competitor in the time slot, Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson. It was one of the best debuts in recent memory for a late night show, beating Ferguson’s 2005 premiere, and Jimmy Kimmel’s debut on ABC in 2003 (in a time slot a half hour earlier). Fallon’s ratings have leveled off a bit in the three months since his debut, but he’s still managed to win his time slot in 53 of his first 55 nights, and holds a 69% ratings advantage over Ferguson in the valuable 18-34 year old demographic.

fTag: Create a Realtime Twitter Stream About Anything
May 30th, 2009 | by Pete CashmoreComments
Note: you can try out Mashable’s fTag page and chat with Mashable readers here.
Twitter hashtags are great, but sometimes it’s hard to track conversations around a tag simply by using Twitter search.
That’s where new service fTag comes along…it attempts to replace the hashtag with an “ftag” (a word with an underscore before it) and pulls together all those tagged Tweets into a single stream on the site. It also lets you contribute to the stream from the fTags site itself. So whether you want to talk about Lost Dogs, or Global Warming, or MashableMashable reviews
, fTags provides a place to do it.

Susan Boyle: Final Performance
May 30th, 2009 | by Pete CashmoreComments
If you’re a fan of the Susan Boyle phenomenon, you’ll want to check out Susan’s final performance, which aired on Britain’s Got Talent minutes ago. And if you’re not a fan, perhaps rejoice in the fact that this social media obsession - which credits its spread to YouTubeYouTube reviews
, TwitterTwitter reviews
and FacebookFacebook reviews

Unless, that is, Boyle wins…in which case this may just be the beginning for the unlikely Scottish star.

WARNING: Juste Best Videos Attack Jumps from Twitter to Facebook
May 30th, 2009 | by Pete CashmoreComments
Juste (dot) ru, the video scam that’s been spreading rapidly on Twitter, is actually a double-headed beast.
We’re now getting reports of the same video links being spammed through user accounts on FacebookFacebook reviews
, too - a screenshot of such a mail is below. If you get a Facebook message with a link to Juste.ru, DO NOT click the link or visit the site - it appears to steal your credentials for both TwitterTwitter reviews
and Facebook, then abuse them to spread the scam further. Your Facebook friends get spam messages, and your Twitter followers get sent malicious Tweets.

Retweet.it Turns Retweeting into a Traffic Exchange
May 30th, 2009 | by Pete CashmoreComments
Retweeting is one of the best ways to share content on Twitter: as we mentioned in our article HOW TO: Retweet on Twitter, there are dozens of new tools to help you share Tweets in this way.
A new service, Retweet.it, aims to create an exchange for retweets: for every two tweets you retweet from users of the site, you get one RT in exchange. In other words, it’s doing for retweets what TwitterHIT did for Twitter followers. Personally, I’m not a fan.

WARNING: Juste is Latest Twitter Scam to Avoid
May 30th, 2009 | by Pete CashmoreComments
If you see a link to “juste (dot) ru” on Twitter today, don’t click it.
The flipside of social media’s ability to rapidly spread content is that scams, viruses and malware spread at a much faster rate: from the trusted connections that allow Facebook scams to propagate, to the abundance of TwitterTwitter reviews
issues in recent months.

More Twitter TV: MTV Launching Social Media Heavy Show
May 29th, 2009 | by Adam OstrowComments
Earlier this week, TwitterTwitter reviews
users were up in arms over the notion of a Twitter TV show (heck, Ashton even threatened to quit).
Although it was quickly revealed that there is no “official” Twitter TV show, there is indeed a show from production company Reveille and Brillstein in the works that will incorporate the microblogging tool.
Now, we’ve learned that MTV is also jumping on the Twitter bandwagon, with a show of their own that will integrate Twitter, FacebookFacebook reviews
, and other social media tools into the viewing experience. Dubbed It’s On With Alexa Chung, MTV has signed deals with both Facebook and Twitter, and will debut the show next month.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online: The Future of Gaming?
May 29th, 2009 | by Adam OstrowComments
Part of Electronic Arts’ success has been due to a legion of devoted fans who buy a new version of popular titles like Madden and NBA Live every year. However, that audience might be waning, as EA’s growth has slowed in recent times for a number of reasons, one of them being competition from online gaming.
To that end, EA announced an interesting new experiment today – Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. Unlike Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, which, like EA’s other sports games is released on a disc every year across popular consoles and usually sells for around $60, the online version will be billed as a monthly, recurring subscription fee. Virtual goods might also be a part of the revenue mix.
