Rich Islands for Adobe Flash
Rich Islands for Adobe Flash let you embed rich user interfaces inside SAP applications. The Web Dynpro for ABAP framework in SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EhP1 now provides new libraries that make it easy to add rich data visualization to SAP applications using the Flex framework. Rich Islands for Adobe Flash will be of interest to:
- SAP developers familiar with Web Dynpro and interested in enhancing SAP user experiences
- Adobe Flash or Flex developers interested in extending professional business applications
- Business Objects customers interested in visualizing their data inside an SAP business process

Interactive Data Visualization
This example demonstrates some of the pre-built Flex components that let you transform your data into highly visual, interactive information.
Production Monitoring
This interactive example shows how one data source can power two Rich Islands, a set of interactive gauges and a digital countdown ticker.
Rich Product Selector
This SAP SDN Mentor's example shows a number of new Web Dynpro features and a Rich Island that selects products "coverflow" style.
Xcelsius Dashboards
Business Objects' popular Xcelsius dashboards, built with Adobe Flex, can also be integrated as Rich Islands.
See how it works
The Adobe Flash Platform includes Adobe Flash and Flex, which both compile SWF files that can be rendered as Rich Islands in SAP Web Dynpro applications.
SWF files are imported into Web Dynpro components as Rich Islands that can interact with other Web Dynpro controls, passing data and events back and forth.
Flex developers use a provided library in Flex Builder to access Rich Islands functionality. In NetWeaver, a provided library automatically links Web Dynpro components with the Rich Islands SWF file.
The SAP programming model is rendered at runtime into the Web Dynpro browser session that contains the Rich Island. The Rich Island behaves as a Web Dynpro control, but is a SWF file rendered in Adobe Flash Player.
