Full Description
This guide to using the UNIX version of FrameMaker 4.0, a sophisticated document production system, takes you from a thorough overview of Frame to a good understanding of producing books or even book series. It is for everyone who creates technical manuals and reports, from technical writers and editors who will become power users, to administrative assistants and engineers. It begins by discussing the basic features of any text-formatting system: how it handles text and text-based tools (like spell-checking). It quickly gets into areas that benefit from a sophisticated tool like Frame: cross-references and footnotes; styles, master pages, and templates; tables and graphics; tables of contents and indexes; and, for those interested in online access, hypertext.
The book also contains three appendixes that make the use of Frame easier. They provide:
1) A guide to the useful X resources that let you configure your Frame environment on a UNIX/X system 2) Tables of keyboard and macro shortcuts 3) A series of sophisticated tips and tricks about such topics as adding running tabs, creating master indexes, and mixing text and graphics
These appendixes will appeal particularly to the experienced Frame user.
Both of the authors have used Frame to produce commercial documentation and books. They are experienced users of Frame, as well as other document production systems. They know what the readers want. Once you've finished this book, you'll be able to use Frame to create and produce a book or even a series of books.
