Several useful documents concerning the Scala language, and how to write software using Scala, are available on these pages. Whether you are interested in an introductory document in order to learn Scala, in a step-by-step guide to its features, or in reference material on the language specification, you will find on this page a collection of useful resources.
- Manuals
By following this link you will find several reference manuals, already formatted and ready to be printed out. In particular, you will find here the Scala Language Specification.
- Scala API
The Application Programming Interface (API) of the Scala language lists all the standard objects, classes, and methods enclosed in the standard Scala distribution, and available to all Scala programmers.
- The Scala Book
The most autoritative book on the Scala language is "Programming in Scala", by Odersky, Spoon, and Venners. The book is expected to be available in print during August 2008; it is also available as a PDF e-book from Artima.com.
- A Tour of Scala
This online guide is an excellent introduction, step by step, to many of the features that make Scala innovative and appealing to all programmers, experienced as well as newcomers.
- Guides
Our guides section contains short articles and tutorials dedicated to specific Scala-related topics, as well as brief introductory material for the novice programmer. We also have installation guides, and a few video tutorials.
- Papers and Talks
Scala is receiving quite some interest in academia. This section contains a list of academic papers published either by us or by other groups, plus talks and interviews related to Scala.
- Mailing Lists
The main meeting point of the Scala community. A number of mailing lists devoted to Scala allow Scalaa enthusiasts and developers to stay in touch, exchange experiences, and develop ideas with other users. The Scala Core Team actively takes part in the discussions, and can be easily reached via the mailing lists for all your Scala-related questions.
- FAQ
We have, of course, a list of Frequently Asked Questions and answers, which will offer you useful support and information concerning common questions on Scala, Scala development, the Scala community, and our website. Follow the link to read our Frequently Asked Questions.
- Other Resources
The Scala community is constantly expanding, and many important resources devoted to Scala were created by external developers and groups: wikis, blogs, and many useful libraries. Find out what they are up to by exploring the pages dedicated to their effort.
If you are more specifically interested in the development of the Scala compiler and tools, just continue to our Scala Developers pages.
