Automated Testing and You, Self-Help for the Flex Developer: Part 2 - InsideRIA
By Michael Labriola
[October 21, 2008]
In part one of this article, we demonstrated how to create some basic and simple unit tests using Fluint. Those work well for very basic situations, but even an average Flex application will use events and have asynchronous aspects. This article will build on the last and demonstrate how to test systems with these concepts in mind. You will learn to write unit tests that wait for events to occur before continuing and whose success or failure may depend on something that happens sometime in the future.
Automated testing and you, self-help for the Flex developer: Part 1 - InsideRIA
By Michael Labriola
[October 16, 2008]
Software developers are a lazy group of people. Itâs true. Itâs what makes us good at our job. We have an intrinsic need to find an easier, or at least faster, way to do things. Of course, we also tend to be a stubborn group of people. Itâs rare that someone can change our mind, we usually need to experience something ourselves to understand why it matters.
Thatâs what this series of articles is about. I will tell you the reasons that my team writes tests. I will tell you what we get out of it. However, I will also show you that the barrier to entry is small and that writing tests is something you can try without a big commitment.
An interview with KitchenSync creator, Mims Wright - InsideRIA
By RJ Owen
[September 25, 2008]
KitchenSync is an up-and-coming ActionScript 3.0 library for sequencing animations and other time-based actions. The project is focused on giving developers a smarter way to handle animation or other time-based, rather than frame-based, functionality with code. The whole project is geared towards using standard OO practices to make time-based synchronization easier on developers. Creator Mims Wright recently announced a Kitchen Sync demo contest which has generated some buzz around my office and got me interested in the project. The winners will have their entries demoed at the upcoming conference. I recently caught up with Mims and had the opportunity to ask him some questions about the project. If you haven't heard of Mims before, he's a great developer who...
ECMAScript Reaction Poll - InsideRIA
By Rich Tretola
[August 20, 2008]
As I am sure many of you have heard ECMAScript 4.0 has officially been killed in favor of ECMAScript 3.1 (Harmony). Since Adobe has based much of ActionScript 3 on the now defunct ES4 proposal, we would like to see...
