Path Finder 4.8.2 changelog

Path Finder 4.8.2 is a free upgrade for all licensed Path Finder 4 customers.
New Features available only on Mac OS X 10.5
- You can now set Path Finder as your “Default File viewer”! See the Path Finder Reveal preferences for this preference. Activating this will redirect all “Reveal in Finder” calls from other applications to Path Finder. Note that this may not work in all applications, but the majority should redirect to Path Finder correctly.
- “QuickLook” support: You can now view documents in Mac OS X 10.5’s QuickLook. Access to this feature is available via a contextual menu item, by using the space bar keyboard shortcut, via the Commands menu, or via the toolbar button. As well, the QuickLook toolbar button changes to Slideshow if you hold down the Option key.
Leopard compatibility fixes
- Superuser operations (as root) are working again (this also fixes the inability to quit Path Finder after such an operation failed in previous versions of Path Finder)
- Fixed a problem where a “Launcher” folder appeared in the Dock while copying/moving/deleting files
- “Connect to Server” dialog works again
- Fixed an issue where weird numbers appeared in the tooltips in Column View and Size Browser (which made the latter crash)
- Fixed an issue with incorrect drawing of selection rectangle on the Desktop
- Select Tool works in Column View again
- Made List View more resource efficient under certain circumstances
Other fixes
- Fixes to “Reveal in Path Finder” preference (revealing in tab or existing window works again, and we correctly reveals in the frontmost window if Path Finder was hidden before)
- Minor Tab drawing fixes
- Removed drawer borders

We also added a “New Folder” item, made a bunch of items dynamically appear based on the current selection, and moved third-party and Finder CM items into a “More” submenu to make PF more stable

- You can now set Path Finder as a default app to open text or PDF files
- Added the “Tab Sets” menu to the main menu (under the “New Tab” submenu) so they can have Set Menu Keys assigned to them

- Option to put the Bookmark bar at the bottom of the browser (check out the little triangle at the right side of the Bookmarks bar)

defaults write
pref now:defaults write com.cocoatech.pathfinder ShowApplicationsMenu -bool true

When selected this maintains the folder hierarchy of the currect session in the Path Navigator. Turning this off makes the Path Navigator change to whatever the current folder is.

- Brand new split-view preview & extended information pane
- Configurable sidebar zones - you can now set each sidebar area to display a particular shelf / folder / mounted volumes / folder history and much more.
- New Shelves: folder history, file history, selected item patch, and user-selectable folder contents.
- Hide / show options for each of the file browser window's elements (see the View menu)
- Completely reorganized view and color options (View menu / Command+J)
- Brand new file copy engine and redesigned copy / move dialogue windows
- Replace All / Skip All option in replace dialogue.
- Column resizing tricks: You can now double-click on column dividers to auto-resize column widths as well as option+click and drag to resize all columns simultaneously, thanks to column view being rewritten using NSBrowser.
- Image icon previews available in icon, list, and column view.
- Support for Mac OS X 10.4's gigantic 256x256 icon size
- Item preview & basic information now available in last column, ala the Finder.
- Change Extension batch feature (Commands menu)
- Improved Go menu (rearranged and better like a Go menu should)
- You can now drill down into subdirectories in all item menus (bookmark bar, contextual menu, Shelf, Path Navigator, and elsewhere)
- Contents menus display number of items contained in folders
- New commands in Drop Stack: add items to the Drop Stack and burn, compress, compress and email them all in one fell swoop.
- New "drag all" icon in Drop Stack grabs everything currently in the Drop Stack
- Contextual menus for images has item name and dimensions. You can select this and it will put the width and height of the item onto the clipboard ready for pasting. The format copied looks like: width="(width of item)" height="(height of item)"
- kqueues is enabled throughout so file system changes should happen immediately (no more refresh issues!)
- Support for the Mac OS X 10.4 slideshow feature (see the Command menu). One benefit over the Finder's implementation of this is you can select a folder to slideshow and PF will slideshow all of the image files located within (including subfolders).
- New animation when trashing, moving, or copying files, because we can. :)
- Improved item highlighting in icon / desktop view (more Finder-like)
- New option to use the Apple Finder column select behavior (where the select directory is active) or the Path Finder select behavior (where the enclosing directory is active) - see the view options when in column mode.
